dcross Posted October 17, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I am currently thinking of buying a M10-P to go with my Film MP. I was offered one for 5.5k€ in very good condition. As the M11 is rumored to drop sometime soon - should I wait for further price drops or is that still a good price, based on the experience some of you have with the launches of previous M generations? Thanks for your help & cheers from Germany! Daniel
Advertisement Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Hi dcross, Take a look here Used M10-P - buy or wait?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted October 17, 2021 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2021 M10-P price would drop, for sure. I'd take it other way, without taking into account price or money. I'd ask myself if the better future M11 would DO better in my own use. Would I lost those pictures while waiting ? Or better have the M which is available now, then be happy without waiting.
M11 for me Posted October 17, 2021 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2021 I certainly would wait for the M11 now that the announcement is so near.

Depends what you consider "so near". In another thread, an apparently reliable source has stated that the M11 will be issued in 2022. _______________________________________Frog Leaping photobook and Instagram
M11 for me Posted October 17, 2021 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2021 Well that is probably correct. Otherwise the announcement seems to be deferred because of some shortage. The camera itself is ready for production and more and more details will leak in the weeks to come. Just for me: I would wait.
shanefking Posted October 17, 2021 Share #7 Posted October 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Go for it. M11 will mostly drop m10r prices, m10p will have less of an effect. Just shoot!

jakontil Posted October 18, 2021 Share #9 Posted October 18, 2021 This is a great dilemma but… I’d ask myself do i need a m10p right now? I wouldnt mind skipping the m11, since it is yet announced and all the troubles getting it after if the price justify the m10-p I’d get it now
junix Posted October 18, 2021 Share #10 Posted October 18, 2021 Why wait for the M11? Wait for the M12, it will be a much better camera.. I would get an M10-P now. I had an M-A for some time and my “M-skills” improved considerably after I bought an M10-R because of the instant feedback. You can always sell it later on at a loss and consider the loss as an investment in refining your skills..
dcross Posted October 18, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted October 18, 2021 Thanks for all the replies! I am not thinking about waiting for the M11 because I might get the M11, but because I don't know what kind of a price drop a new generation M causes for the older generations. If, lets say, the M10-P would take a drop of 1k€ when the M11 comes out, it would definitely be worth waiting a couple of months 😉 But, in the end, of course nobody can predict that for sure. Thanks for your help & cheers from Germany! Daniel Leica digital M cameras depreciate at about 10% to 15% a year. M10-P was released about three years ago. Ignoring inflation for a moment and assuming $9,000 for a brand new M, we have: 0.9^3 = 0.73, $9,000 * 0.73 = $6,570, which is the current rate on the used market. If you wait two more years, you can have it for: 0.9^5 = 0.59, $9,000 * 0.59 = $5,310 (I hope my math is correct 🙂) 1
KFo Posted October 18, 2021 Share #13 Posted October 18, 2021 Let’s get real here. How much does the price have to change for it to matter to you? Don’t worry about the M10x price change with respect to the M11. I doubt the M11 will have any material affect on M10x prices or any other digital M. Remember, the M11 will be a MORE expensive camera, not the same price as the M10x. In spite of being a “digital electronic good” the M isn’t going to crash with every new release of a camera. 2

I’m curious when an S3 will be $5000 😅

Photoworks Posted October 20, 2021 Share #16 Posted October 20, 2021 you want to wait a year before buying M11 for 10k or buy M10-p for 5k? It is you money, I think if you have a camera use it now. If you just want it to show off wait. I went from m10-p to M10-R and I am very happy with it. Best leica m digital. I will only consider m11, 12 when I see it and it makes sense. But if you are worried of buying leica for 5k used and in a year sell it for 4k, why are you really considering an m11 for 10k? How many years have you lost already thinking about that? chasdfg Posted October 21, 2021 Share #17 Posted October 21, 2021 I would just get a used M240/MP-240/M9/M9-P or a monochrom and use it till the M11 comes out. Then buy an M10-P when the M11 comes out (or a few months after). You won't lose much on selling the M240 or whatever digital M you're using in the meantime, and might save a little on the M10-P later on (the depreciation for the M240/M9 cameras would be more like 5% per year at this point). Even an M10 is worth taking a look at. I think the price of a used M10 is quite reasonable compared the M10-P as things stand, as usually the P models go for about 750 USD more than the standard non-P versions, but if I recall correctly the M10 cheaper than an M10-P by more than 750USD right now. The benefit of having an M10 is that you might not bother with the M10-P later. The only downside is the hassle of selling the interim camera/maybe losing money on trading it in with a camera store. Or you could go for the M10-P now and skip all the bother about depreciation and just enjoy it. Someone else has already suffered a fair chunk of the depreciation for you anyway. That makes a lot of sense, thanks for your advice! I've also included the M10 and M240/MP-240 in my search and will go with whatever option shows up in a good condition and a matching, good price. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and find an M10-P for an even better price 😉 Thanks everybody for your help and your opinions!
andybarton Posted October 21, 2021 Share #19 Posted October 21, 2021 I would wait a month. There will be a lot of M10 variants on dealers’ shelves looking for new homes.

Daniel, As wrote Andy, wait a month if you plan to buy M10 or variants, as some would sell in advance of buying M11. Another path ... If you are after M240 and variants, I think that those would not become much cheaper in a month, so in your place I'd buy one, now. 😔 some facts to be considered, - M10-P or M10 has same 24Mpix as the M240 and co. - M240 family has much better battery life, so factor in the second battery for M10x - many more to think about like plan to sell later or not, etc. Edited October 21, 2021 by a.noctilux
