Why has no one from the fanboys suggested that a PIXII owner or owners submit test photos alongside the PIXII owners' Leicas?

Because it has been done already? You may wish to have a look to @loloboubou's raw files above they are very interesting.

I look forward to reading the impressions of those who have reached a different conclusion.

When and how you can use a Pixii is largely given by very few parameters:

  • It uses the M mount but not the 6-bit coding
  • It has a rangefinder with a narrowish base and parallax compensation
  • The sensor uses only part of the full image
  • It does not use a screen for taking photographs

This happens to be my sweet spot for my casual photography.

The camera is well made and handles very well. My 40mm Summicron-C is practically glued to that camera, and I practically always use it af f/2.0. From time to time I use the Jupiter-3 (50mm, 1:1.5), mostly fully open, or then the M-Rokkor 28mm 1:2.8. I don't particularly care for the 50mm Elmar, 1:2.8, but mostly on account of the infinity lock; also, it could use a CLA but I'm too thrifty. That lens has other uses, too.

The software in the camera still needs some work. The highly compressed image format (GPR) does not really work but it's really superfluous. Auto exposure at the pull speeds (80 and 100, respectively) seems not to work right now. The black point of the black and white images is all wrong but can be easily fixed in post. However, the makers of the Pixii are highly responsive to pleas for help and - even - well-meaning suggestions, and improved versions of the software seem to be released on a very brisk schedule.

Using and sharing images with the app in the phone does not seem to be one of the strong points of the Pixii. Otherwise, using the phone as a remote control and for the most important house-keeping functions is straightforward.

Having the 'faux' CL (the digital one) and the Pixii, there's not much left to my desire.

Pissing off Leica fanboys? heh. I'm a Leica owner, not a fanboy. I have no idea, personally, why a Pixii would piss off a Leica owner ... or fanboy. Nor do I care if it does. ;)

For me, the Pixii seems a suitable RF camera to complement my Leica CL ... yeah, the digital one (I don't know what's "faux" about it). Same format, same or similar pixel resolution, same M-mount lenses I use on the one will work nicely on the other with little between them. There are times when I prefer to use an optical tunnel viewfinder and other times when the EVF is a better choice, that's all. And I prefer my cameras to be as simple as possible with as few buttons and controls as possible.

Hopefully I'll have it to work with and learn very soon. :D

Are these jpgs out of camera? If it's from the cameras raw files, which program is able to convert these?

I never use the jpeg conversion whatever the camera.

Pixii files are natively supported by Camera Raw from Adobe, so Photoshop and Lightroom. I believe it is also darktable compatible. Other ? i don't know.

Pixii raw files can be converted with any dng compatible app i guess. Quickly checked on Apple Preview, Apple Photos, Capture One 8, Darktable 2.6.0, Iridient Developer 3.3.13, Lightroom 6, Photoshop Elements 2019, Photoshop CS3, RawDigger 1.4.5, Raw Photo Processor 64, RawTherapy 5.5, Silkypix 8.

I am not categorical. Converted yes but correctly processed?

Again, I leave a few raw DNGs in a dropbox for anyone who wants to try on their favorite processing software   Pixii's DNG files / B&W native mode and DNG Bayer mode

It's an interesting question as to what "correctly processed" might actually mean. ;)

Unless you're trying to reproduce a Pantone chart or gather spectrographically correct data, correct is simply whatever you think reproduces what your mind's eye visualized as the appropriate colors and skin tones.

🙂  Maybe I tried all of these in the last 15 years but not at the same time. I decided two years ago to use mainly DXO PhotoLab (Colour, Camera- and lens profiles). They only load files of cameras they made a proper profile for. I don't think they will ever support this camera. Only for my Leica M8 files I sometimes use an older Capture One 12.

C1 V12 opens them.

They look quite good. The sensor quality can't be an argument against the camera.

I often make my own CCPs … ;)
