Personally, I won't pay a premium and will wait my turn. https://www.schouten-select.com/index.php/new-arrivals/leica-35mm-f2-apo-summicron-m-box.html Erik  Edited September 20, 2021 by egrossman

dkmoore Posted September 21, 2021 Share #5  Posted September 21, 2021 I offered them $18k (non retractable offer) for a special edition M kit listed at $25k about six months ago and was declined without any counteroffer or message back, so they must fully expect to get their listed values.  Must be working I guess..? Seems crazy but I’m all about free market.

In these parts, we call that buggery. I'll pass. There is no object on this earth that is worth the violation of the chastity of my southern hemisphere. Kreeshp Posted September 21, 2021 Share #7  Posted September 21, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) By the time there's available stock, after a few rounds of semi-annual price increases, it will probably be $10,500 USD 🤪 I, for one, will drop off the reserved list if a price hike happens before there's availability. There's a limit to how much Koolaid Leica can serve me. 2

The price is ex VAT, for those who are hobbyists. It is his business model, anticipating that you and I are so greedy that we pay this extra premium. Nothing wrong with that. otto.f Posted September 21, 2021 Share #9  Posted September 21, 2021 (edited) Not in a hurry with that lens, the 35 Summicron iv and the FLE give enough possibilities together. I would like the APO for the close focus, which makes it very usefull as a one lens does it all option for travels where I want a compact set. But heaven can wait. Btw, I can’t see this offer from Schouten as unethical, nobody is forced to step into it. Edited September 21, 2021 by otto.f
michali Posted September 21, 2021 Share #10  Posted September 21, 2021 I've bought & sold equipment from & to Marco Schouten, a reputable dealer, but this is taking the piss. On the other hand he fills a niche & knows that there are enough fools out there who'll part with their money 💸

LocalHero1953 Posted September 21, 2021 Share #13 Â Posted September 21, 2021 I was never looking for this lens, but Schouten has just been struck off the list of shops I would deal with. I hope Leica takes notice.

RayD28 Posted September 21, 2021 Share #15 Â Posted September 21, 2021 I bought a used camera from Schouten once and got a decent price. Â Price was at market but the camera at the time was hard to find. Â The camera was just as pristine as he described. Â I negotiated a price and he came down about 5%. Â I'd buy from him again but it's not the first place I'd look for something commonly found. Â
Yarosuav Posted September 21, 2021 Share #16  Posted September 21, 2021 Annoying as it may seem, it’s just basic supply and demand. I don’t see anything wrong if somebody wants to pay over MSRP for an item in short supply. Doesn’t seem like Schouten is an authorized Leica dealer, so they can do whatever they want regarding pricing. It’s a free market… 2

LocalHero1953 Posted September 21, 2021 Share #18  Posted September 21, 2021 (edited) New, unused in box: all that's happened is that it's been opened. Perhaps they just got a delivery from Leica, opened it to photograph it and then added an extra markup for doing so? A nice way to make money - legal, supply/demand etc. But smelly. Danner Posted September 21, 2021 Share #19 Â Posted September 21, 2021 I dunno, there's a segment of the market (wealthy) where the price premium doesn't matter a whole lot (not me, of course). Â So, supply and demand, it's a form of freedom, which I like.

Was this an eBay listing? I was looking at a 35mm Summilux V2 in his eBay shop a month ago and remembered seeing it on his website too, so I checked back there to make sure it was indeed the same lens. It was, and was listed much cheaper.  Needless to say I bought it from the website. His eBay prices must be speculative.
