Hi folks,

Looking for a bit of advice. I'm replacing a M10 that got stolen and I've decided to get a film body instead. The two options I've narrowed it down to are:

M6 Titanium. $6500aud, comes with a 90mm 2.8 titanium lens. Both are immaculate. No boxes or papers for either unit. No case, straps etc either. It's been owned by a collector. It's the ostrich leather version, and is stunning. The 90mm lens isnt something that I would buy separately, but I'm sure I'd learn to use that focal length (I've shot 85mm on digital a bit)

Second option would be a brand new silver MP. $7000aud, retail purchase.

Either way I'd be looking for a 35mm or 50mm to go with them too (sadly will be a 3rd party lens).

Looking for thoughts / opinions on the better buy please!

Is it for display and investment or for use? For use take the MP, to show off the M6.
As for a lens - consider a Summicron-C 40 mm.

Definitely for use. Either one will be used the way they're intended, and not kept on a shelf

I would choose the MP. It's newer and the price difference is very close. Add a voigtlander 35 f/2 ultron lens are you will be all set.

I'm leaning towards the MP. The improved rangefinder patch for glare, and the fact that I can get a brand new one that will be all mine excites me.

But wow, that titanium M6 sure is lovely. The bundled lens doesn't hurt, and I could always sell the lens to recoup some funds back for another lens.

Welcome to the forum! And another vote for the MP.

Thanks! I've been lurking on and off for years, had an account since late last year. Glad to be getting involved here (and further away from Facebook pages!)

I was in a similar situation and ordered a black paint MP. Now I’m waiting for it and I’m not sure how long it will take. The price of a used M6 is simply too high for me when compared to a new MP. Especially when factoring in the cost of a CLA and upgrading the viewfinder to the MP version.

Part of the reason for going with the silver is that my retail contact here has it in the hand, ready to go. Even the Leica branded stores in Australia show no stock, so I guess they have to get them from Germany.

The CLA cost was something that I had considered. Given that the M6 has been a collector's item I doubt it's been used much, if at all. I didnt want to buy it and then have to send it off for a CLA for a month. Plus, I feel that the M6 might be a good investment piece, not a daily driver. Without the boxes and paperwork it's less attractive.

The silver MP is beautiful and congratulations on getting a new film Leica! Given the chance to buy a silver MP today I’d probably do the same. I might be waiting a very long time to get my black paint MP.
