Times of Nikonos are long gone, in comparison the Leica X-U is still halfway up-to-date.🙂
I presume, neither Hasselblad/Fuji will build a digital X-Pan, nor will Nikon construct a digital Nikonos.
The only one-time released waterproof cameras Leica X-U and Nikon AW-1 prove that the market for subsequent models has become too small.

I have a AW1 and its great. Too sad Nikon gave up this way. IMO Xu is too slow and not wide enough.

A digital Nikonos would be great. IMO m43 would be ideal in regards of size.

My trip to the Nevada desert earlier this year? S5+16-35 and CL with 18. Wide zoom came in handy in canyons.

My last camping trip to the eastern Sierras? S5 with 28-70 for hikes, CL+Sigma 30/1.4 around the campsite.

Next camping trip? Rolleiflex 3.5 E3 and a bunch of Ektar, M2 with m-rokkor 40/2 and a bunch of Vision 250D.

trying to keep it interesting…

On each trip: M9M + Voigtlander VM Heliar 50mm f/3.5 + VM Ultron 21mm f/1.8. That combination covers most of my photographic needs.
(Might take the 40mm f/1.2 Nokton as well, but typically I take that if I want to carry only one lens).
Additional: Leica X1 or Contax T3 as back-up or for color.

Last big trip with M8.2, 35 mm f:2.8 Summaron, mainly for B&W to Paris and Normandy in 2013; Canon A710is, 6x zoom, for color and fits in my pocket; and my iPhone. I mostly now travel with the Canon and iPhone and use the M8.2 "around town." I have not used my M4 for years. Love it, but not all the film I have to carry! Sold ALL my Nikon SLR kit years ago. Too much to drag around. For me, the fewer choices of lenses to mount, the more photos I take. The 35mm Summaron on my M8.2 is a great walk around choice. Like shooting my M4 with a 50mm.

This is really quite bizarre, but on my last two trips it has been

Sigma FP-L, 24-70 (rarely used and rarely brought outside the hotel), mainly 45mm f 2.8, 65mm f 2.38, and 85mm f 1.4 (also have the 35 and 24 but don't bring them usually)

Q2 Mono and Q2

I also have an M10-R and M10-M which I bought before the Qs and an SL2. An embarrassment of riches. The SL2 is too heavy for me to take outside the studio. The M10-R and M10-M, love them though I do, just don't get picked up the way the other cameras do. When I am on my own, sure. But when I am with family and they don't have time for me to stop and focus, no.

Depending, I will either take my Belstaff canvas shoulder bag with an insert or my Wandrd Prvk backpack.

The one constant in my travel setup is the Q2, everything else is replaceable.

Recently I acquired a battered old X1D and combined with the XCD 65 / 90 lenses, I find it a very capable kit with manageable weight / size. Delicious output and colors that are right without any tweaking. It is slow and clunky, which is good since I take fewer photos now.

So, Q2 + X1D / XCD 65/XCD 90. Everything in a Mystery Ranch Coulee 25  https://www.mysteryranch.com/coulee-25-pack with some cheap protective cases / wraps from Amazon. I can't say enough good things about this backpack - it swallows anything you can throw in it and the front opening 3-zipper design with extremely heavy-duty YKK zippers that are designed to last forever are seldom seen in other products.

For travel where weight and size are considerations:

M10 with 50mm 1.4 lens; iPhone 12 Pro Max; Nikon D500 with 18-300mm zoom (only if wildlife or other moving or distant subjects will be involved).  Sony RX-100 if there will be many night photos.

Likely to leave at home:  other Leica lenses that I own (35mm, 75mm, 135mm); Nikon D800 and many fixed focal length and zoom Nikkor lenses.

My favorite Leica lenses: 35mm 2.0 and 50mm 1.4 (a tie).

I like having just one Leica lens available--I concentrate more on the shot and gain a better feel for control of the lens and camera than when I am switching lenses frequently.  In general, I work with what I have.  On a 2018 New Zealand trip, my Nikon D800 had an electrical problem, and my only working "camera" was my iPhone X.  I have to say that my photos were as good as my other trips with better equipment.x

Only have one camera so the answer is easy - my Q2.

All that changes is the bag. Hadley Pro for cities and will just stuff in a proper Osprey walking backpack when hiking (not actually done it yet thanks to COVID but plans in place for September). One spare battery. Polarising, IR and ND filters plus either a Leitz mini tripod (for cities) or a Sirui travel tripod (for hiking)

My move fast kit :

The Leica CL +  vario 18-56mm is very nice to travel light.
Eventually could add the 23mm.

My luxury kit for the nicest images :

M10 + lux 35fle + cron 50 + Elmarit 90

My stay at home kit :

SL + 24-90

If the CL2 comes with some features of the SL,  like joystick, same battery, and better evf, then I will go for it with 18-56mm, TL 23mm and use my M optics 35fle and 50 cron on it.

I may keep the M10 but not the SL

My "Every Day with me"-Kit:
M10M +SLX28 + Apo50

My Travel-Kit:
M10M + SEM21 + SLX28 + Apo50 + Macro M90 (sometimes + Apo Elmarit R 180)

Sorry SL users, I'm sure the SL is a great camera with fantastic lenses, but my days of lugging heavy photo bags are over, I love to travel light.

Help!  Heading to the Maine coast on a family trip in a few days and trying to decide what to bring - no hiking, just around the towns and beaches of York and Ogunquit in the early mornings. I have a car so can bring anything I want. I recently picked up a used S007 and the S 24mm, 35mm and 70mm lenses. Also have the SL2 and SL2-S, 16-35, 24-90, 90-280, 28 SL, 50 SL, and CV 15 III and 21mm SEM.

The SL2-S will come for any nighttime shooting (probably with the 28 SL).

Otherwise I’m thinking of sticking with the S007 and S lenses, and perhaps the SL2 with the 70-280mm for reach and telephoto compression.
