Hey David, I cannot prove my observation as I did not undertake a scientific test. I just noticed that the photo's colours as chosen by auto white balance looked more pleasing (slightly warmer) in Capture One than photos from similar previous daylight outdoor shots. However white balance is a matter of taste. 

I am looking forward to your findings which are obviously more objective since your using a more controlled setting.

Actually CL has flaws with Sigma and Panasonic L-mount lenses. 
This update may correct those small incompatibilities between them and the CL. 
Such as high power consumption and erratic AF behaviour. 
 

And this firmware mat also contain future lenses profiles or current lenses new firmwares. 
 

We should try to mount as many L-mount lenses to see if there is any improvement ?

Hello, I am struggling to get the update to work. Come to think of it, I had same issue with 4.0/ I format the SD card, place the downloaded firmware on the SD card, not in a folder. But when I navigate to camera information and start update, I get error, 'no firmware found on SD card'. I tried another card, same error. 

Only thing I can see that doesn't look right is the file size on Leica download area is 79.44mb, but my downloaded file shows as CL___41_.lfu 83.3mb in Finder on the Mac. 

I think I got 4.0 to load after so many random variations, that I forgot which one worked!

Any tricks or tips? 

Thanks in advance. Cant wait to get the bug fixes.............

I have cracked it. The second card I tried was a Sandisk, the same as card I had in the camera. Neither seemed to 'hold' the new firmware file. They showed it when I pasted, but if I unmounted the card reader and then loaded again, the firmware file was no longer on the card! When I tried a third, Samsung card, i noticed it had the 4.0 firmware already on it, so was hopeful, and this time, the 4.1 stuck and i was able to update. Neither Sandisk card is locked, and even if they were, the behaviour of a locked card is not same as the way they behave now. Weird s**t (sorry if not allowed to say that, but it is a legitimate saying!)...i will try and remember for next time. 

Now to enjoy the bug fixes......

I use a separate SD card for firmware updates.  I remove all of the Leica folders and then copy the firmware update on to the card so it's the only thing on there.   If the firmware is anywhere but on the top level it won't install.  I've found that using a blank clean SD card eliminates any installation issues.  Put it in the camera, turn it on, and the update will begin.

I just installed firmware 4.1 and it appears to fix the exposure bracketing bug.

With firmware 4.0, I noticed a bug when doing exposure bracketing at ISO 100, 1/20th sec, f/8, and 5 shot exposure with 2 EV increments.

After the bracketed shots were taken, the firmware would perform noise reduction even though ISO 100 was used, and the back LCD would randomly turn on and off while applyng noise reduction.

With firmware 4.1 using the same settings, the CL does not perform noise reduction and the back LCD does not randomly turn on and off.

It's good that people are listing what they found as bugs in v4 and the results of installing v4.1 ... You'll convince me that I should do the installation soon. :D

I've never had any difficulties installing firmware. I have an old 16G SD card I use specifically for this operation. 

Prep: 

  • With whatever card I'm using in the camera, I manually export my user profiles to it and then remove it. 
  • I format the separate card I use for updating using the SDFormatter app on my Mac. 
  • I drop the update file onto the card after the format is completed, unmount it, and then remove it from the macOS SD card reader. 

Install:

  • I insert the updated card into the camera and power on. 
  • Then I follow the instructions for using the MENU and doing the installation. I let it automate creating the user profiles export file, and importing it again when done. 
  • Once the installation is completed, I power off the camera and return the original card back into the camera.

So far, this procedure has always worked perfectly to do the installation. 

Notes:

  • I've never looked at whether the file numbering is preserved or reset. I don't care what file names the camera creates .. my workflow renames and renumbers all the files after I move them to a computer for rendering and finishing.
  • I have noted some installations where I needed to manually Import my user profiles from the stored file on the card, and some instances where I needed to correct an erroneous setting post-update and re-save a particular profile. I've found this particularly in the case of the lens profile saved with a user profile ... I suspect that if the lens profiles have been updated, there might be slight differences in the internal naming/structure of the lens profile that prevent the camera from addressing the saved lens profile in the user profile correctly.

I updated the FW, and honestly, don't see any difference!... The sequence numbering is important to me for putting my shots in order and for finding them easier whenever needed! As before, I tried to set the numbering by hand to follow my last shot in the previous FW. It took me a little time and much patience, but then I realized I went one step (about 1000 shots) too far, and it is of course, impossible to go back or to re-install the new FW!... I wish I didn't update and kept the older FW!... 

BTW, the focussing area is the same as before! Another important point that lots of us have complained previously!

I wish Leica would give us less headaches with new FWs!
