I have recently bought a Leica MP, and it seems to be working fine. I was just wondering what a "normal" service at Leica would set me back? I had an MP serviced in 2013 (around 600 euros), but I would assume the price has increased since that.

Leave it alone! Cameras aren't like cars, they don't need an oil change every year. Just use it, if something's not working properly then get it fixed.

My MP is nearly 20 years old and has so far never needed a service (famous last words?), so hopefully yours will do at least as well.

No way would I spend 600-1000 Euros for a Leica factory service unless there was something obviously wrong with the camera or if the camera has had a hard life for decades and is in need of a complete refresh.

For a routine ‘piece of mind’ service of a camera that appears to be working fine I would use one of the many competent independent technicians for a fraction of the price and much faster turn around.  It should only need this every 10 years unless very heavily used.

My M7 repair invoice from February was $218.75 before taxes and shipping. The work included: adjust rangefinder, adjust exposure meter, clean viewfinder optic, adjust shutter times, check/adjust/clean. I assume this is their "normal" CLA work when no other issues are found. It took 9 weeks for Leica NJ. I decided to send this camera for CLA right after I bought it to have a known starting point of its working condition. Of course that was Leica USA, not sure how European prices correlate.

It can't possibly be a CLA at that price. Probably more a check acknowledging that everything worked as intended and a removal of the top plate to do the cleaning.

Price-wise that corresponds with what I paid for having my M6 top plate removed and the finder cleaned out by Leica Ginza in Tokyo a few years back - After photographing during a typhoon a lot of old dust and grime had deposited inside the view/rangefinder surfaces due to the condensation - whatever could be adjusted with the top off was adjusted at that occasion.

The personel wanted to sell me a complete cla for 100.000 Yen (more than US$ 1000 at the time) but I knew I could send it to Sherry Krauter for the same treatment for US$300 including shipping, so I declined.

YYECamer.com (USA) recently quoted me US $250 for an M6 CLA.

YYE is very cheap but beware: I sent him my 35 Summicron to fix a minor issue and never got it back (apparently it was lost in the post). However what really disappointed me was that YYE flatly refused to file an insurance claim nor help in any way with the shipping company. Emails soon descended to the level of insults. Never again.

I bought my Leica M6 classic from a reputable dealer. It was sold to them by a collector (the dealer and I assume that because it was in such a pristine condition).

The last CLA was 2002 and the camera was built in 1998.

Got my Leica M6 Classic CLA + MP viewfinder upgrade at Leica Wetzlar and it cost me nearly 1000 EUR.

According the bill without the viewfinder upgrade a CLA only (necessary maintenance) would cost nearly 520 EUR.

A CLA only (necessary maintenance + recommended maintenance) 880 EUR.

I hope that information helps you.

Did you find a notable benefit in terms of less flare and/or more contrast from the MP viewfinder upgrade?

I ask, given I'm thinking about getting a CLA + MP viewfinder upgrade to my M7 (mine was one of the first M7s available in 2002 and so the viewfinder is the old one that flares). fwiw, roughly 1000 EUR is also what's also been suggested to me for that work from Leica.

I had my viewfinder upgraded and it was a vast improvement (although I never experienced flare before).

The original M6 viewfinder needed to be cleaned and when I looked through I had the impression it was darker compared to the MP viewfinder.

I owned a old Fuji X100 Classic, Voigtländer Bessa R3A and now a Fuji X100V: The X100V viewfinder (I know, it isn't a rangefinder) is the brightest, clearest and sharpest I've ever looked through. The MP viewfinder doesn't reach that level.

As Matlock wrote I also haven't really encountered much of flares with the old M6 viewfinder.

Was the the upgrade worth it? As the M6 needed some CLA to be sure that the camera works for me for the next decades to come I thought I also do the viewfinder upgrade in the same round because it wasn't "really that much" price-wise.

I think it's better to test it yourself by going to a Leica store or a dealer who has Leica cameras on the shelves. Try to have a direct comparison so you can make up your mind if the few hundred bucks viewfinder upgrade alone is worth it.

I had exactly the same experience with that person.

Never again
