For reference, I think it may be helpful to add that the Ultron II vignettes less at f/4 and onwards than the Summicron.

May i ask how you compared? Just curious as at f/4 and on i can hardly tell a difference between my Leica copies. On M lenses at least, R lenses are another story.

A definite contender for the most idiosyncratic reason I've ever seen for selling a lens!

Given that the Leica Forum is a motherlode of idiosyncratic opinions, I’ll take that as a compliment.

Yes. I put a milky white thin piece of plastic on the lens and took aperture series with both lenses in diffuse light.

We agree that there may be a good reason to think of the Ultron II as an alternative to the 28mm Elmarit-M Asph II as well because of how small the Voigtländer lens is. Even though the Ultron is an f/2 lens in the center, it vignettes in a manner that I would often not use it wide open at longer focus distances, but rather stop it down to f/2.4. From that point of view, it sits between the Summicron and Elmarit.

For reference, I think it may be helpful to add that the Ultron II vignettes less at f/4 and onwards than the Summicron.

So, I ended up selling my Ultron II for the Elmarit for this reason, and one other, and I want to ask you specifically Lars, as I know you sing high praises of the Ultron. The other reason I sold it was it was near impossible to mount the lens on my MP properly; the lens wouldn’t seat (click into place) without twisting very, very hard on the lens to the point that I was worried about the mount. I thought I was crazy, but had someone else try it as well at a camera store. I sent it back and received a new copy; same issue. So I simply gave up on the lens. Have you experienced this?

No. Not with any lens from any manufacturer actually, but I had that issue with two different adapters. The first I contacted the manufacturer and got a replacement. The second was bought from China making a return expensive and slow, so I modified the adapter myself, since I found out that it was the springs that were overly arched, and by flattening the springs a bit, the fit was much smoother.

It appears to be two different frames, but what do we see here? Are you trying to show us the degree of vignetting?

Its marble from an abandoned marble quarry. The stone cut down the middle. The right half in shadow. The left in sun.

Quick update for those that supported my decision around this thread: I finally ordered the Ultron and will share my personal conclusions once I can have a decent real life experience with it. Thanks a lot to the community, Sergio.

Hope its awesome!

I'm loving mine :)

Hi friends, quick update: I received the 28mm Ultron II yesterday. Gorgeous little lens, smooth well dampened focus and solid reliable aperture ring. Looks promising, need to put it under decent real life testing but this will ad versatility in my documentary and personal projects. Couple of test shots on M10M and M240 (yeah, still works!)...

Your cameras may say the lens is fantastic. But let's see what your beloved Nokton says

Nokton says “I miss you, why?” 😅damn… This 28mm is a great lens (too sharp and contrasty perhaps!) but I’ve been using 35mm as my daily/go-to for years… I’ll play a bit more with 28mm and will be a valuable addition for indoor/tight scenes but 35mm will always be my natural view of the world and how I love documenting…

While I also see the world a little more in 35mm, the 28 Ultron is so nice that I'll make it work over the 35 Ultron.

No buyers remorse on this one... :)

I have an MP and got the lens two weeks ago and have had no issues whatsoever. The lens is stunning on film and looks great on the MP BP also. Like many have said before  the only thing I'd change is the chrome on the front of the lens. I'd bet sales would jump if they got rid of the chrome on all their lenses!
