Advertisement Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Hi Simone_DF, Take a look here Sigma 28-70 is shipping again. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
oldwino Posted May 22, 2021 Share #22 Posted May 22, 2021 A request! Could everyone please be careful about writing the focal length range correctly? It is getting confusing. We are dealing with a Leica 24-90, a Sigma 24-70 and two Sigma 28-70. (Sorry, sorry...That should be one Sigma 28-70 and one Leica 28-70). 1

Nothing is stopping me except my own good pleasure… I don’t want the Sigma. I have an order in for the Leica Vario-Elmarit Sl 24-70mm. I have never purchased a lens on the basis of the lens hood that came with it. No big deal! But some sports photographers like a lens that is stable when you put the lens and camera on the floor of court at a basketball game. A very minor point; I admit, Edited May 22, 2021 by Jeffry Abt

So what are your thoughts so far... it actually doesn't look that small, very similar in size to the SL Summicrons but a little less weighty? Should have mine arriving today they have started shipping in UK at last. Even though I had decided I was done with L mount (as in not buying anything else), I have wanted to try this since it's announcement. Looking forward to seeing some real world images from it please. setuporg Posted May 27, 2021 Author Share #26 Posted May 27, 2021 It’s actually very small as far as zooms go, the only smaller ones I have are for APS-C. Feels exactly the size of the APOs but lighter. Feels a bit less sturdy than the 24-70 Sigma, probably because small. I shoot complete cards then ingest so will have something soon.:)

Boojay Posted May 28, 2021 Share #29 Posted May 28, 2021 Few more... only minor tweaks to all in Lightroom classic. Very little to say about the lens, it's not a wow for me, just a very useable, light, 28-70 zoom. Autofocus is quick and snappy. I did previously have the Sigma 24-70 L mount, used it for a few months, on both the SL2 and the CL, in the end I sold it because I found I was using the Pan 24-105 more, mainly because it adds IS to the CL, I don't mind the size of the Panasonic lens on the CL but did find the Sigma a little heavy for the body. Yet to try the 28-70 on the CL. Welcome, dear visitor! Yes, I think you're right, probably easily rectified in post... these are pretty much straight from camera, converted dng's to jpeg's. 1

The Pan 24-105 eats through them quite quickly if you leave IS on... for example a day shooting while on holiday or visiting somewhere, one or two spares is a must... not a problem really, they are small and easy to pop in your pocket, a dual usb charger makes them quick enough to charge overnight. I am enjoying the smaller lighter 28-70 on the CL, time will tell which one will win for my use. 4
setuporg Posted June 2, 2021 Author Share #34 Posted June 2, 2021 I can see how sitting in a restaurant calls for the 24, so 24-70 would still get exercised.

But I have the impression that it is unfortunately optically weaker, not just the bad sealing. Would like to see a detailed test (maybe also from red dot ?). So in the end the Pana 20-60 is probably more useful than the 28-70. Tested on a Sony https://sonyalpha.blog/2021/02/24/sigma-28-70-f2-8-dg-dn-contemporary/. It seems to be close to Sigma 24-70/2.8 in image quality.
Chris Nebard Posted July 23, 2021 Share #36 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) Hi All, First timer on the SL forum. As a long time Q and M262 user, I will trade in my M for an SL2-S in a couple of months & I'm almost convinced that I will add the 35 APO SL Summicron as my base kit and main lens. My internal debate is whether to get the SL2-S bundled with the new Leica 24-70 Vario-Elmarit which (along with a free M adapter thrown in) would total approx £9850 before the M trade in deduction. In Leicaland, that seems to be a very good deal. My alternative, I think, would be the SL2-S (unbundled), 35 APO, the new Sigma 28-70 DG DN, plus (at least) one other Sigma DG DN Contemporary prime, for roughly the same money. I'd lose the discount and ultimate build quality of the Leica 24-70 but, of course, gain the greater flexibility and lighter weight offered by the Sigmas. What I'm interested to know, i.e. now that users of the Sigma 28-70 have had a couple of months' usage, is whether or not previously mentioned SL battery concerns, distortion, IQ, or any other potential issues, have been allayed (and the same for Contemporary primes for that matter) before I make my final decision. Thanks in advance for any responses - the collective knowledge on the Leica Forum is unbelievably helpful. Cheers, Chris. simon_hsn Posted July 23, 2021 Share #37 Posted July 23, 2021 I recently switched from the Sigma 24-70 to the Leica 24-70. It might just be one voice, but here is what I think: - Design: Sigma uses like 4 different materials and does not at all compare to the more clean and elegant design of the Leica. I hated the zoom lock button, one should expect a lens not to zoom out in the first place. I also prefer to have the varios AF modes to be changed in the Menu. It keeps the lens cleaner. - Build Quality: Again, the Leica is better build, not just the hood. For me, it feels like a different lens. - Optics: My copy of the Leica is noticeably sharper than my Sigma (maybe I just own a bad Sigma copy) - Features: Linear AF in the Leica version is very useful for video. The Sigma is basically not usable for video MF. - AF performance: Leica is just way snappier. Might be due to better firmware. - Carry pouch: The Leica carry pouch is small, neat and usable (nothing special though). Sigma’s “bag” is so huge it does miss the point imho. Life is simple. Understand the aspects that are different, then decide if they are worth the asking price. Great we have options to chose. 4

mikeLD Posted August 14, 2021 Share #39 Posted August 14, 2021 Has anyone tried the Sigma 28-70mm on a Leica CL yet? I've got one coming, should be here next week. Adorama has them in stock and is also selling them on Amazon.
db24fps Posted November 24, 2021 Share #40 Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) Can anyone with this lens kindly do me a favour? My copy, mounted to an SL2-S, emits a slight clicking sound when stopped down above 2.8 and pressing the camera shutter. You'll need to enable the electronic shutter on the camera to hear it (I require the use of the silent electronic shutter for some work and the sound the lens is making above 2.8 is akin to a heavily dampened mechanical shutter). I'm curious whether this is typical of the lens in general or whether I need to contact Sigma. Edited November 24, 2021 by db24fps
