ktmrider2 Posted February 2, 2021 Share #21 Posted February 2, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I own two 50 Summicrons (first and last version) and a Voigtlander 50f1.2. The first version of the 50 Summicron is screw mount and came with my 3f and I have owned the fifth version since the mid 1990's. A few years ago I was looking for something faster than f2 but did not want to drop thousands and thousands of dollars for a Summilux or Noctilux (cannot justify cost as I am an amateur these days and photography is not my main passion) so the 50f1.2. Now it is my most used 50. I remember when Voigtlander came out with their initial lenses for LTM mount. They were seen as good lenses for relatively sane prices. Now with lenses like the 50f1.2, 35f1.2 or the new 50 APO, they have been hitting nothing but home runs. They are now seen as great lenses still at relatively sane prices. Way to go Voigtlander!!! SJH Posted February 3, 2021 Share #22 Posted February 3, 2021 It’s very early days (it only arrived on Monday) but I think the Voigtlander 50mm f2 APO is rapidly going to take that slot, so far it feels superb on my M10R and M10M. It may well turn out to be Voigtlander’s most outstanding lens for the M mount but very early days as I say!!

I just received a nice copy of a Canon 50mm 1.4 LTM from Japan today ($275 shipped via eBay). It's good as everyone says it is! This shot taken wide open on an M10D. The serial number is 46294 so am I correct in thinking it's a type II model? a.noctilux Posted August 9, 2021 Share #25 Posted August 9, 2021 Erik, if your lens has double distance scale, "m/ft" it's type II, https://global.canon/en/c-museum/product/s46.html
egrossman Posted August 9, 2021 Share #26 Posted August 9, 2021 Mine does have a double distance scale. Thank you for confirming this Arnaud. On a separate note, one concerning issue that has come up in trying to research this lens is the frequent radioactivity of vintage lenses from the use of thorium oxide as a component of the glass used. I was trying to find out if this lens uses thorium oxide but have come up empty so far. Erik

We live in so many dangerous or poisonus environments that we don't have cue. I use the first collapsible Summicron 50mm with any doubt and this one is radioactive. ... Many other Canon lenses that I use sometimes
Peter_S Posted August 9, 2021 Share #29 Posted August 9, 2021 VM Heliar 50mm f/3.5. Small, light, very sharp, nice OOF rendering, and I really like the images it produces. An unexpected favourite.

cobbu2 Posted August 10, 2021 Share #31 Posted August 10, 2021 Another vote for the Canon LTMs, both the 1.4 and the 1.2. Except for the long focus throw and (far) nearest focus distance, they have a nice character wide open and are very sharp otherwise, especially the 1.4.

Alberti Posted August 10, 2021 Share #33 Posted August 10, 2021 I do like the Canon 1.4 LTM. Its very sharp, and the Canon gives the impression of a tight plane of focus, in that, relatively modern, while resolution is very high. Nice relaxed colours. Very good at Black and White too. I might try a hack to get it under 1 meter. (35% grabs is what LR tells me, so that's a lot) Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I also have the Nikkor 50mm HC in LTM, which is a Sonnar build & it focusses down to 40cm (just above one foot) and it can be used without any noticeable focus shift, at least I have not seen it. It is a great lens. I had the flange operated on so it couples down to 70cm instead of the LTM standard of 100 cm on the rangefinder. Great old fashioned lusty colours. And don't say the Sonnars are not sharp. . I use it a lot for strolling work. The lens does flare a lot! Just 10% grabs . Here at closest distance and EVF: Most grabs is what my Summicron version V got: 40% of the 50mm pictures. My wife like the handling of this lens most too.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I don’t find the TTArtisan and 7Artisan lenses to be acceptable wide open focusing at a distance. Close up, they are fine. It’s hard to beat Voigtlander. I really should try a Zeiss M mount someday.
