cheuwi Posted January 31, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I have had the Q for a few years now and really enjoy it... to the point that I haven't mounted my 24mm or even the 50mm on my D800E for a couple of years now. When I travel these days, I carry my Q and my D800E with the 70-200... unfortunately, they are getting heavier every year... I am contemplating on getting the CL with a Summicron 75mm SL and not carry my D800E anymore... (I am comfortable with manual focus but not sure for how many more years.) Does this make any sense? What else do others do here? I am comfortable with the Q (not Q) even if I have to crop down to 50mm... I don't print big... Thanks, Cheuwi

marchyman Posted January 31, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 31, 2021 Q plus M 262 w/75mm lens is the pair I usually take. On rare occasions I'll replace the M with a Canon 7D and 70-200 zoom. If space is tight I'll take only the M with an additional lens, a Zeiss 35mm C Biogon.
nicci78 Posted January 31, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2021 (edited) Q and CL are made for each other. almost same UI. Same battery and almost the same body. Edited January 31, 2021 by nicci78
stuny Posted February 1, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 1, 2021 I carry the Q and the Vlux114. As an extra benefit, they use the same battery and charger.

matted Posted February 2, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 2, 2021 Q2 + M9 or M4 with a 50 is my go to pairing. Will sometimes add the 21SEM. That’s a whole lot of looks and function in a small kit.
Leica Guy Posted February 2, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Q2 + Canon R5 with a wide assortment of lenses. The Q2 is my walk around and travel camera. I love using it. Simple, great IQ, lightweight, unobtrusive The R5 is my workhorse camera for both commercial and specialized fun photography. Canon 11-24 f/4 for rotundas, cathedrals and really wide angle landscapes. Canon MPE-65 macro for snowflakes at 5X magnification. Canon 70-200 for portraits and general purpose zoom. Canon 600 f/4 for birds, wildlife, airplanes in flight and racing cars. I’m soon turning 70, but I’m not yet tired of carrying the big Canon kit when I have specific assignments or subjects that warrant it. I still use the Q2 for 90% of my approx. 12,000 images a year.
david a. edwards Posted February 2, 2021 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2021 Q2 with CL with APO SL 90 lens. SL 90 is = to 135mm on CL. Firmware 4 on CL has a 1.7x on it that means the APO 90 can become = to 225.9mm as well. Perfect combination.
T25UFO Posted February 2, 2021 Share #9 Posted February 2, 2021 Q2M + SL2 & 75mm . . . or Q2 + M10M & 50mm.
falcon468 Posted February 2, 2021 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2021 I have my Q and in addition, on several occasions, packed my Lumix GX1 M4/3 camera with a telephoto or similar. It is amazing the amount of electronic DNA that the two share. Anyhow, that combination works for me.
cheuwi Posted February 3, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted February 3, 2021 Thanks for sharing... Looks like we are all doing the same thing (i.e. carrying a longer lens with the Q). I am leaning towards the CL route (for now)... any rumors on a CL2?

Ditto for me !!! I use the Q as good quality 28 and 35 mm (crop) with the V-lux 114 for video and Tele. The common battery is really space saving idea for travelling, which I used during my last trip in Dec 2019 in Vienna. Light weight and total coverage from 25-400 . LondonL Posted February 3, 2021 Share #13 Posted February 3, 2021 I have the Q-P which I love, and want to become my one and only camera, but I’d miss the 75-90mm range for the occasional portraits. Alongside the Q-P I have: - Leica M6 (35mm and 75mm lenses) - Sony A7iii (35mm and 85mm lenses) - Canon G5x ii (purchased for a specific project and works wonders for that) - Ricoh GRiii (impulse buy. It’s great little compact camera but I don’t love shooting with it) I’m probably going to sell the Sony and Ricoh. Potentially add an M10 and use this, plus the Q-P and M6 to cover all my needs. I do mainly documentary projects for non profits and then family/travel.
Chris Nebard Posted February 3, 2021 Share #14 Posted February 3, 2021 I use the same setup as Marchyman: Leica Q and the M262 & Summarit 75; lightweight and carried in a small bag. It’s perfect for me. I, too, have the Zeiss 35 C-Biogon f2.8 but have stopped using it since it bled alarming amounts of grease from the focus helicoid. I wasn’t impressed with the slow, unconcerned, after sales service from Zeiss (via Dale Photographic) and so they’ve lost a customer for good. They’re not bothered - and neither am I. If I do hanker after a nice 35, I’ll pick up a used 35/50 Summarit or Summicron but, being totally honest, the Q and the 75 are a perfect match and are more than enough. PhoToad Posted February 3, 2021 Share #15 Posted February 3, 2021 Q plus Olympus E-M10 Mark II with m.Zuiko 45 mm 1,8 (equiv. to 90 mm angle of view). Great quality in a small and lightweight package. Ideal for citywalks and hiking.
PhotoCruiser Posted February 3, 2021 Share #16 Posted February 3, 2021 I still have and use sometimes Nikon D800 + Sigma 15mm + Nikon 24-70 + Nikon 105 Micro VR + Nikon 70-200, allmost only in a Hugyfot scuba housing or the 105mm for serious macro work Panasonic LX-100 exclusively in a Nauticam Housing for scuba dive photos I just carry my Lumix LX-100 and the housing with me to Costa Rica or elsewhere to dive holidays, the Nikon/Hugyfot rig is certainly better quality but too bulky and heavy to haul around the world in a plane. LondonL Posted February 3, 2021 Share #17 Posted February 3, 2021 If Leica made a 50mm Q that would be the perfect two camera setup. Wouldn’t need anything else. One can dream

I've even thought of a Q2 Monochrom + R5 but perhaps in another lifetime! 🙃
huwm Posted February 4, 2021 Share #19 Posted February 4, 2021 Q2 plus CL with Lumix 24-105mm f4 macro, but have a hankering for more reach so looking at sigma 100-400 or lumix 70-300 which is due soon I rarely carry both tbh only the Q2 90% of the time having decided beforehand what sort of 'shooting' likely
JohnQ Posted February 4, 2021 Share #20 Posted February 4, 2021 I have pared down my kit significantly in the past six months getting rid of all my GM lenses and now have the Q2, a Sony a7riv, a Sigma 85 Art, a Milvus 50mm, and a Voightlander 12mm. The Voightlander is amazing on the Sony if one is careful with the perspective..
