Here a picture of the M10-P Reporter in combination with a 28MM Safari-edition Summicron F2.0. The colors are not the same, but they match quite reasonably.

Leica Safari editions with short lenses have always struck me as somewhat ridiculous. The camera might survive photographing big game on Safari with a 28 mm lens -Leicas are solidly built-, but the photographer will certainly be eaten by a Lion, chomped by a Hippo and gored by a Buffalo...  OTOH, they go perfectly with a snappy Harrods' Safari suit and a Pith Helmet.

There is a functional advantage—the built-in hood. Would like to see that in black.

Not to worry. The kevlar will protect your right eye.

I just added the Safari 28 to my black camera bodies. The reporter looks nice!

I agree with JAAP that I won’t be channeling my inner Bruce Davidson with any lions or tigers with a 28. 🤠🤠 But it looks cool.

I like the safari lens better on black body than safari body (too much colour match, silver is best on safari body), or on reporter body (which I love the looks of, but was better looking with black lenses).

That said, I am not too fond of cammo colours on Leica bodies either. Prefer a nice looking khaki colour strap! :D

I have a khaki color strap as well but I am a sucker for camo! If I'm ever famous enough to have a limited edition there will likely be some component of camo, which means they may only sell 1! :  )

You'd better buy two in case you can't find the first one.

Pete.

The functional advantage is likely to be very small, as the lens hood barely protrudes over the front edge of a screwed-on UV filter when it is pulled out.
Perhaps one should screw on an additional lens hood for a better effect?

I have minimally tested but the hood has done it’s job so far. Even with no hood I hardly have any undesired affects unintentionally.

it extends about 1/4 inch past the outer edge of the leica UVA filter.

What  savage wildlife did you fight off with the hood?

I suspect the safari editions go into the bush about as often as the average 4 wheel drive vehicle in the US goes off road.

Do you know if the finish of the safari and reporter editions is theoretically more durable and scratch resistant than the standard black and silver chrome?
