Brief question while waiting for matching lenses:
What happened to the gecko? 😀

Leica Safari editions with short lenses have always struck me as somewhat ridiculous. The camera might survive photographing big game on Safari with a 28 mm lens -Leicas are solidly built-, but the photographer will certainly be eaten by a Lion, chomped by a Hippo and gored by a Buffalo...  OTOH, they go perfectly with a snappy Harrods' Safari suit and a Pith Helmet.

Safari is just a brand. these were based on the paint used one leica cameras during wartime.  Yeah, a 28mm lens on a safari is know to wild animals as "fast food"!

Here a picture of the M10-P Reporter in combination with a 28MM Safari-edition Summicron F2.0. The colors are not the same, but they match quite reasonably.

Erikvw, I noticed in another post you also had a M10-P Safari.

Would you happen to have a photo of the two bodies? It would be interesting to see how different the "olive green" is between the Safari and Reporter.

Thank you

Here you go….

Very challenging to capture digitally.  To my naked eye, the greens appear to be same.  The image depicts the Safari a few shades lighter than the Reporter.

Safari M10-P

Reporter M10-P

Safari 90mm

Safari 50mm

Safari Light Lens Lab

Safari 28mm

Note the 90mm accurately depicts the shade of green.  The 50mm appears darker but it is exactly the shade of Olive Drab Green.

The LLL 35mm is somewhat darker but not a match.

Yes, the LLL 35mm is semi glossy.  The Safari and Reporter are semi flat.

Thanks a lot @Fresno! I ended up seeing a Reporter in person and it's a tinge less saturated than the Safari (going by memory).

I saw a Leica reporter edition worn. It looked hideous. They certainly don’t age well, especially the Kevlar thing. I never understood these editions but I guess some people like them.

For me the safari green looks best with the silver lenses.

+1

I have a M10-P and a Q2, both are Reporters.  Next service, they will return with Safari green leathers.  Kevlar gets fuzzy and fades to a gray (not olive drab as Leica claimed).

The worn Reporter edition brasses really nicely. Not finding anything hideous on the finish, but what IS hideous is the fraying of the aramid.
