RBB,  The color is better from the SL2-S.  You will see this time and again too.  I switched from the SL2 to the SL2-S for the color, low light capabiltiy and far less moire.  I make 4 ft x 6 ft prints quite readily from the SL2-S as well.  If you shoot in low light or night photography, the SL2-S delivers stunning results when printed.  Thanks for your comparisions.  r/ Mark

Less Moire? How is that possible with 24mp vs 47????

I have also taken advantage of the ongoing Leica promotion, plus dealer discount, and ordered an SL2-s to provide some company to my SL2 📷📷

I will also try to make some kind of comparison…after my holiday 😎

In the UK the price difference is £1350 so that may come into the equation. At £3950 it thought to justify the extra just for the resolution.

Talk to your dealer ... I ended up with an offer to get the SL2 for $200 less than the SL2-S (both new), went with SL2-S since it suits my needs better.

I am getting more moire from the SL2-S compared to any of my higher resolution cameras, or even my former M10-P. It's not a deal breaker for me, and doesn't happen that often - just that with other cameras it happens 'almost never'.

Most 24MP cameras have an AA filter to prevent moire. Leica cameras do not have AA filters. Higher resolution cameras (>40MP) typically do not need an AA filter.

but the SL2-S version feels softer and more natural to my eye.

It’s an interesting comment.

When I moved from an M240 (24mp) to SL2 (47mp), and EVEN when using the same M lenses on both cameras, there seemed to be a rendering from the SL2 not just of more resolution (obviously, given the higher megapixels) but also of higher “sharpness” in terms of acuity. Almost unnaturally sharp for portraits at times, for my taste.

Is this an aesthetic difference that people also see when specifically comparing the SL2-S and SL2, and if so, wouldn’t the SL2-S likely be a better choice for a softer / more natural feel (to use Tjazz’s words) if the subject is portraits and the output is smaller prints to say a maximum 16x24”?

Very good to hear the 4x6 ft print size you are able to make from SL2-S. I was considering getting SL2 just because of the concern of not able to print big. I glad I got the SL2-S now, really like everything about it (switched over from Canon). Can you please provide any guidelines on if we have to do an special preparation when you print 4x6ft from SL2-S dng?  Appreciate your help!

I'd say it's relevant as it diminishes the only advantage the SL2 has. When I need to print big (seldomly) I first give Lightrooms upscaling feature (they call it Super Resolution) a shot. It's surprisingly good and 9 out of 10 times there's no need for manual changes later on. This only works with a proper sharp image to begin with. The website fails to deliver a good example, if you have the software already - just give it a shot if you weren't aware.

I have a question for SL2 - SL2S users.
How is the AF on those cameras after the big AF update? Is it usable for live music photography, dance photography? Is it now usuable in low light?

I know it won't be as good as any R6 - R5 or other A7IV, but, how it is in real world use?

If you have example to post it could be great :)

Single shot AF has been working well for a very long time now. I still wont’ bother with continuous AF until Leica adds phase detect AF.
