He does Vikas, and so was I, with plenty of emotions running though me. I couldn't help but think that I was staring extinction in the face.

How different things could be if we humans stopped the wanton destruction of our planet and the extinction of species, something which we are solely responsible for.

Every year the Las Vegas area car clubs get together for a toy drive for Sunrise Children's Hospital.  We had a great response this year with a ton of toys and even an appearance by the Super Heroes.  This really makes these kids happy and they also like checking out all the nice rides.  I'm happy to be part of it.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

A surprise from my wife. She, unnoticed by me, convinced the Leica-Store employee to give her one of these while I was playing with a Q2. They were not for sale 🙂🙂 I just saw it yesterday in our Christmas tree

A few memories from a trip to the top of Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum

"The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, and several other settlements. The eruption ejected a cloud of stones, ashes and volcanic gases to a height of 33 km (21 mi), erupting molten rock and pulverized pumice. The only surviving eyewitness account of the event consists of two letters by Pliny the Younger to the historian Tacitus.

In the autumn of 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius violently spewed forth a deadly cloud of super-heated tephraand gases to a height of 33 km (21 mi), ejecting molten rock, pulverized pumice and hot ash at 1.5 million tons per second, ultimately releasing 100,000 times the thermal energy of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.[5][6]

Vesuvius has erupted many times since. It is the only volcano on Europe's mainland to have erupted in the last hundred years. It is regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because 3,000,000 people live near enough to be affected by an eruption, with 600,000 in the danger zone. This is the most densely populated volcanic region in the world. Eruptions tend to be violent and explosive; these are known as Plinian eruptions." - Wikipedia.

To get an idea of how massive the crater is, look at photo 3, people standing around the circumference appear no larger than ants. The volcano is still active today, and photo 5 below shows steam coming out. The weather conditions change rather quickly giving dramatic interplay between the sun, clouds and the sea, as seen in photos 6, 7 and 8.
