I spent the evening getting my @@@@@cks frozen off after dark with the aim of seeing how the SL2-S deals with urban areas after dark - looking particularly at colour fidelity in street lighting, colour saturation, noise and how easy it is to correct it. All photos taken with the Apo-Summicron-SL 75mm.

In terms of simple low light performance I found this one most astonishing: Kings College Chapel. I could barely see it - little more than a darker patch against the dark sky. I have run it through Topaz denoise, but the colour is as shot with AWB. ISO 25,000, f/2.2, 1/15s.

Magdelene Bridge, Cambridge. Again, I am astonished at the fidelity and saturation of the colours at this ISO.

SL2-S +Apo-Summicron-SL 75, ISO 10,000, f/3.5, 1/60s, AWB. Once again, AWB picks the right colour.

Trinity Street, cyclist going the wrong way, but at least he has a light (I usually do the same)

AWB. Previous versions of AWB from any other digital camera I've had would have looked at colour from the sky and turned everything ugly yellow. This shows the correct colour of the punts. Again, this is after dark, looking like late afternoon. Basic noise reduction in LR.

When I want to see how a camera performs in truly nasty low light, I just step out our front door after dark, into the glow of our sodium vapor streetlights.  Here's a shot at ISO 50,000 of  silver, red, white, blue and green cars in this defective lighting.

AWB gave about 2500 K, but clicking on one of the white cars reduces that to 2000k, and cuts the yellow cast a bit, but the colors in both are pretty accurate.

Here's another shot in mixed Sodiium + LED lighting.

I remember there was a camera shop with a window full of Leica`s on Kings back in the `70`s.

Yes, Campkins. It had several branches in town, all of which have now closed. There is still one shop on Kings Parade which I think was set up by some of the staff, and they inherited quite a few Leica pieces - and still have some for sale. I bought a M2 and several M lenses from the original Campkins, and much later my M9.
