Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 50mm f/2 Aspherical VM lens to be announced soon

Hi, trying out my Lanthar on the M9, I wanted to have  look at flaring. (DNGs developed in DXO, all settings flat, and converted into JPEGs. JPEGs downsized in photoshop.)

As stated above, I had very little information when I bought this lens. So, I wanted to find out how it works. I try to be objective. The pics are taken handheld.

Of course, I am curious how the Lanthar performs compared to my other M mount 50s (Summarit, Summicron, Planar, Sonnar) ...

Two pics: #1 at f2, #2 at f 8. The sun is in the left upper area of the 50mm framelines :

This photographer opened my eyes regarding Voigtlander lenses...

I admire his work very much.

It seems to me that this should open our eyes about how any decent lens allows us to take great photographs. Content is king, the rest is fluff, unless the lens actually is not able to render a competent image.

Just my opinion...I’ll put on my helmet!

Just got mine and I am extremely happy with it. Paired with my M10-R it is beautiful, great replacement for my Summicron 50mm v3. Also I kinda like the size and focusing feeling. Great image quality with nice character and 3d feeling to images. Will attach two shots I made with it.

I received the lens last week and have just begun to shoot with it. Stunningly sharp, as reported everywhere and a pleasure to handle. I've been going back and forth between the CV APO 50 and the CV Nokton 40 1.2. They are an interesting pair, with the 40 also very sharp in the center at f2 but with a very different character wide open. The shots below are with the APO-Lanthar at f2 mounted on a Sigma fp and focused with live view. I haven't tried them on my SL nor my ancient M8.

100% jpeg (I had to check - the bun tie is actually purple thread. ;^)

Hi, I got mine on January 29. Since then, I have taken over 200 pics, and I am happy with this lens so far. I also appreciate its size. It fits in the pocket of my jacket fitted to the M9,

so I have both hands free, when necessary... On the M9, f 2, handheld:

Hi, looking at flaring again. Above, focus was at infinity. - Now, at ca. 70cm, the sun is outside the viewfinder, at 1130 (position) :

So, this can happen, in a situation like this. - Normally, I do not try to take pictures with flares.

And when taking normal pics in bright sunlight I have not seen any flaring (so far) in my pics ... ---

One more shot. With these pushed colors, you can see some aberrations on edges of building. Still very hapy with overall perfomance aberarations are here.

I am sure it is a great lens.  My latest fifty is the 50f1.2 Nokton.  I am having a hard time seeing the differences between all the 50's except for the 50f1.4 Summilux ASPH which seems to have a unique rendering.  I also own the latest 50 Summicron and the collapsible Summicron which came with my 3f.  This is not a criticism but an observation and may not apply to anyone but myself.  Have fun with the new lens.

A good observation. I recently purchased the 40 f1.2 Nokton and the CV 50APO and have been shooting to understand the signature and potential of each. Despite the difference in focal length, when shooting with the same aperture,  I have trouble remembering which exposure came from which lens.

One thing I am enjoying is rediscovering my old M8 - a camera I have since first release and have not used in many years (I need a new set of batteries). I think the 50APO will be a nice partner on this camera.

Hi, my other M mount 50s (Leica Summarit, Summcron, ZEISS Planar, Sonnar) are also very good. - I simply enjoy playing with my new toy!
