When travelling with it, is the lens hood for the APO Lanthar designed to be reversed and stored on the lens (with a dedicated lens cap covering the reversed lens cap), rather like I seem to recall my Summicron v4 (?) would do??

Just some throwaway shots with the 50 APO Lanthar on a M10M.

I missed focus a bit on the flower one, but for some reason I still kinda liked it...just a bit of desolation.

I was going to post a couple more pics....but keep getting message I can only post 1.95 MB???

I read there was a file size limit of like 2048px long side  per image.....I thought.

Next 2 images I'm trying to post are 864K and 1.3 MB each...I tried posting 1at a time and still the error message.

Or is there a limit of what I can post per day?!?!

Thanks,

cayenne

I guess the golden question for many of us (at least for me) is: is this a leica 50 APO substitute? Is Leica still worth that (x number of times the cost of) premium noting Voigtlander’s lens development.

It says it in the text: these lenses have differing characters.
If you think that based on the examples shown they are not really that different, don't mind the handling differences thicker form factor and prefer to save some money, choose the APO-Lanthar.

My sense from several weeks of shooting with the VM lens and considering online comparisons with the Leica 50 APO, the most significant rendering difference will created by the vignetting present in the VM Apo-Lanthar at f2 and perhaps f2.8. Sometimes, depending on the subject matter, vignetting is not apparent and sometimes it gives a desirable mood to the image. But sometimes you might want a scene illuminated more evenly. The outtake below is an example where I would have preferred to have less evident vignetting. The Leica APO seems remarkably flat in this regard. Of course, the decision to buy the Leica 50 is a personal choice. Both lenses appear to create images of brilliant sharpness and contrast. Having the VM Apo-Lanthar available presents a relatively affordable opportunity to test whether a highly corrected apochromatic lens delivers a look and feel that works for you.

Thank you for sharing. What aperture was used for these shots?
