Here is a window light portrait made with the 50mm APO Lanthar on a Leica M240, ISO 1600, at f2.4.

It does have that "there's no lens" clean look. This is probably the age limit for a portrait with Lanthar 😀.

Hi everyone! which would you choose from summarit 50 / 2.5 and Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 😃

Hi, I like handling the Summarit better. It is lighter, the lens shade fits better, it is smaller. IQ is very good, but there may be CAs in the chrome of cars in sunlight.

I should use it more ... The Apo-Lanthar is better, I think, the way I use it ... ---

Sterile???  Some of the images on this thread look like they were mangled in an autoclave.

How comes? I’ve seen quite nice results here, but also results as described by you. Is this because of the compression?

I also have the feeling, besides quite some CA, that the lens has a tendency towards purple coloring.

Everything is so, of course. But I look at the rendering of Summicron and APO, and I like summicron more, I think summarit will be closer to summicron.

for example

Might be the best 50mm lens in the world, but with tasteless processing can produce results like a $10 web-cam.

To enable the readers to form their opinion, I would prefer results without being processed.

It is not too sterile?

That's the word that crossed my mind when I studied a batch of street photos I took last week. We look for resolution of fine details and this new VC gives you precisely that. I also took out a special edition 50 Summicron which I knew to be "sharp". But those images were close yet slightly softer in rendering (like the gate-post above). I think I would need to complement the VC with a pre-aph Summilux if I sought character. The detail you get with the VC is a match for Nikon's Z7 with its 50mm lens – Nikon colours are another thing altogether!
