I was looking for a topic for a black challenge then realised it was right under my fingertips! Macro mode.

Tried that on mine awhile ago but recoiled some what after seeing the sheer level of skin-dust and cr*p that showed up 😕 mea culpa. Hadn't noticed as my eyesight is not particularly good whereas the acuity of the Q2M is fearsomely good.

First image post, you all have created outstanding photographs, thank you for the inspiration.  My dad in his home just after a cancer treatment at hospital this week.  His wisdom to me just before I created this image, "Every day is a bonus."  Q2M, ISO200, 1/50@ f1.7, cropped 1:1.

Good luck to your dad. Your image is excellent. One can see the stress of his treatment and wonder about his thoughts.

A cousin recently was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. After radiation and chemo, no sign of cancer now. The chemo treatments are becoming more effective for some cancers.

Excellent photo.  I sincerely hope your father responds well to the treatment.

Just testing a square format image. I am not really happy but I cannot put my finger on why. So posted here for negative comments so that I can learn. Settings were: ISO 200, F8, 75mm setting, -2 EV, 1/100 sec.

Thanks everyone for your kind words regarding my photo and the well wishes for my dad. I so enjoy the camera, it’s been ages since I’ve done personal work and it feels great to get out with the Q2M and “see” (pre-visualize) again in black and white. Be well.

Good shot. Those bolt threads look really sharply focussed. Maybe they should be plasticised/encapsulated (small kids playing)?

The bench is right outside the Boston Leica Store and the threads are not as sharp as they look :) .  The Macro on the Q2M is very, very nice.

Hi Stephen,

Not sure If I am qualified enough, but would like to help.

In my view, it's a somewhat difficult light situation, or just maybe your positioning -  bright on the mountains and clouds, and shadowed buildings, in special the closer one.

Not sure what is going on at top right corner, but it's not helping. The square format is not helping either, at least for this composition.

Difficult to grasp what was your intent in this image, but the buildings mid way, closer to the lake are not helping - the sky and mountain are interesting, but then the foreground is not. Might be worth to try again this area, and seek different compositions with different lighting,  or just try to get the foreground building on the right to hid building further back.

(don't know the are, so hard to say much about possible compositions/povs). If you shot with dng mode, might ne worth to see how it looks pre-crop

Hope it helps a bit....

The 75mm setting is irrelevant - guidance during capture. The guttering upper right spoils the composition - discard. Most of the righthand edge upright 'column' can be discarded. Ditto the lefthand 'column' - to the left of the front left sapling. With care you can retain some drama in the clouds above the mountain as you chose to underexpose by 2 stops.

You actually have a square format content area:-) Need to crop further. The bottom horizontal is just under the base of the leftmost sapling. The left upright edge is just to the left of the left sapling's branches. The right upright edge is between the third and fourth sapling (counting from the left) around the pale area on the ground but avoiding the detail of the dark building's top window pair. The top horizontal is whatever is left available in the square format.

Brighten the shadows of the saplings a little. Unfortunately unless you like Tulley tubes they will sort of look ugly but there it is, the trees need them. The rest depends on your post workflow. YMMV just have fun in post:-)

A square picture is content that you see as a square not slavishly what is captured by the camera in any mode.
