Piccadilly

Leica TL2 + Apo-Macro-Elmarit TL 60mm, no hood. Colour image, AWB, adjusted slightly for contrast and structure. Some colour fringing (not visible at normal size on my 27" monitor) removed in LR.

FWIW I stood here for 10 minutes trying to get the right combination of traffic and people. Out of 21 photos three had bad purple flare, the rest were like this.

Paul why no hood on the lens. Did you forget it or leave it off on purpose??

Habit, mainly. I tend to use hoods for protection against knocks and fingers rather than against flare. The front element on this lens is set deep, and the hood makes the combination a bit bulky, so I leave it at home. In this case it seemed resistant to flare even in this difficult scenario.

The front elements of the SL zooms are very close to the front, so I usually use them with the hoods.
