Or new "Yashica".

Even if they will made it and sell it. Who is going to support and service it?

Good question, support and servicing is very important. I have no special interest in the PIXII but as far I've read the price would be approx. half of the price of a digital Leica M. I would prefer a used M (Typ 240, 262) at comparable price in good condition purchased from a trusted dealer and that it can be serviced by Leica.

The new "Yashica" is a horrible story, a real shame that harms or can harm other companies that take business seriously.

Best

If it comes in at half the price of an M10, that would put it in secondhand M240 or M9 territory. That better be a hell of a sensor to make you forego all the things you already know about if you were to buy an M240/M9:

- Leica build quality

- Leica service and support

- Sensor is a known quantity. On the M240, it is close to an M10.

- Both M9 and M240 have screens.

- Both M9 and M240 have SD cards. You don't have some measly built-in 32GB storage, beyond which everything has to be downloaded to your phone. If it's a high MP camera, that will take ages, and it will soon overload your phone's storage. That is, until you can get your phone near a PC.

People buying RF cameras not because of the sensors. R-D1 still sells well because it is RF. And so is M8.

We are comparing cameras with one in country service (Like NJ only for NA), plus HQ, to unknown yet business decision camera.

It is better than nothing service (Leica) vs next to unknown business model for digital cameras.

Many of us use digital rangefinders just as we are using film rangefinders, no screens, no machine gun approach. And many of us don't need huge files. This is why in many regular cameras it is multi-choice for RAW file size.

I'm I going to buy v1 of this camera? I'm not sure,  I like working cameras, not market research releases.  Even company sized as Leica shows what v1 cameras are not ideal (M8/M9). If it would be regular camera manufacturer like Canonikon, I would. Few people show camera, I'm not sure about it... But it could be new approach. Electronics are possible, but RF and shutter...

With 5.5um pixel pitch, it can hardly have a 28MP FF or 12MP APS-C sensor i guess. Could well have a 16MP APS-H sensor then. Would justify both 28/35/40/50 framelines and a price tag higher than that of the digital CL eventually. The base length of the rangefinder looks quite short though, hence accuracy issues with the fastest 50mm lenses i suspect, let alone 75 or 90mm lenses which have no framelines anyway. Daring challenge indeed, unless it's just a vaporware camera.

They've just announced this:
12 MP APS-C 4:3 sensor with global shutter (4096 x 3072, 22.5 x 16.9 mm)
Price: around €3,500
Dream over.
https://photorumors.com/2018/11/12/pixii-camera-update-12mp-aps-c-43-sensor-global-shutter-m-mount-price-e3500

12MP for a 4:3 APS-C sensor leave less than 11MP for 3:2 pictures. Not sure i would have paid more than 2,000 EUR for that, but 3,500... Clean M240 bodies can be found easily for less.

What a joke. You can get a used M240 for that price.

Or get a Leica CL. Or a third party of your choice like Sony, Fuji etc.

I've seen second hand M8's for less than £1,000

Very disappointed!

I cannot see any advantage in buying the 12MP Pixii rather than a 24MP CL at about the same price, including the kit 18-56 AF zoom lens or even a second hand M8/M9 at a lower price. I suspect they will vanish without trace in a few months. If the price had been nearer €1,000 rather €3500, they might have sold a few. I feel sorry for the backers of this non-starter.

Why don't they do a bit of market research beforehand?

Heck, they could even create a few "rumours" on a few photo forums and see how people react?

For the price they're asking, you could get two Fujis which have better ISO performance, screens, memory cards & IS.

Surely, their market must be existing M users.

Which non-M photographer is going to spend that amount on an unknown item and splash out on M lenses?

Assuming he even knows what an M lens and Leica are?
