Leicaladz Posted June 23, 2020 Share #1  Posted June 23, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, Does anyone know of any 3rd party solutions for the hood caps for Mk 1 35mm f/2 Summicron ASPH or 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit ASPH? The original 14043 has been discontinued for a little while now. If anyone has any ideas?? Thanks Ben - Leica Manchester

ianman Posted June 23, 2020 Share #2 Â Posted June 23, 2020 One idea is that all of us who have lost these caps should write to Leica asking them to make some. Â
Jean-Michel Posted June 23, 2020 Share #3  Posted June 23, 2020 One must remember that Leica lens cap engineers spent decades designing self-removing lens caps. Here is an example of a Leica (or is is a third-party model) self-removing lens cap failure: 😀    1

lct Posted June 23, 2020 Share #5 Â Posted June 23, 2020 I seem to recall that Match technical makes a substitute to the 14043 hood. Edit: found it https://www.ebay.com/itm/MATCH-TECHNICAL-LC-SR-02-LENS-HOOD-CAP-NEW-REPLACES-14043-HOOD-12526-12524-/184124794696

I stored it somewhere on the bottom of one of my Billinghams and there is a very slim chance that I’ll use it once upon a time in some future downpour.

lysardman Posted September 5, 2020 Share #11  Posted September 5, 2020 How about one of these I printed at home snug fit with my phone number if it gets lost? I don't know the legality of my selling them. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Rick in CO Posted September 5, 2020 Share #12 Â Posted September 5, 2020 Original replacement prices can be crazy! Ever since a lens cap blew out of my hands on a bridge in France (wasn't going to jump in after it!) I buy inexpensive third party caps and shades to travel with. Shades require testing to avoid vignetting as sometimes they are not exactly as advertised. The originals stay safe at home in the boxes.
rsolomon Posted September 7, 2020 Share #13  Posted September 7, 2020 I have the match technical, not the original design, thicker, therefore a bit bulkier - really no big deal, important thing is that it fits properly, I kinda think better than the Leica original

It seems the Match Technical isn’t available in the UK, and I lost mine just over a week ago while racing to get to the pub before the kitchen closed. As for Leica discontinuing this.... Insert longwinded and angry rant here...

ijohansson Posted November 15, 2020 Share #16  Posted November 15, 2020 You can actually find replacement caps on Ebay that are cheaper than Match technical. Just search for "Leica cap" or "Leica 14043". I lost my hood cap last summer, they are definitely easy to loose.
