I am pleased to hear that. After doing some online research about 21mm lenses I purchased a mint copy of this lens yesterday and I should receive it next week. I am looking forward testing it out.

Sorry for late reply, having a new born at home prevents me coming here as frequent as I used to.

28 f/2.8 11809 this is recommended by Zeiss UK

Beautiful shots!!! I have the humble CV 21mm f4 and love it, the f1.4 is pure magic :)

I will look forward to your thoughts after testing out your newly acquired Zeiss Zm 21mm f2.8 lens.  I shot with one quite some time ago and was thoroughly impressed by it when tested along side some of the other 21's mentioned in this thread.  Which M camera will you be testing it out on?

I liked a lot this post 🙂 so it could be the right place for my question. A Leica Store is selling this lens for $1,400. Rated condition 10-

Leica 21mm F2.8 Elmarit-M, Boxed 3481665

Is this what is called 21/2.8 pre ASPH?

Is this a good deal?  I just would like to know how this lens performs if you can share your feedback please 😃

Dave,

Please excuse the late response. I did do some testing with my M262. I shot with no lens definition and with #11134 (21/2.8). Overall, I thought the LD #11134 rendered better images: brighter and no dark edges. But my test could have been done better. I shot on two different days, two different sites and somewhat varying conditions. I'll try later shooting both sets under identical conditions using identical exposures.

I just bought used  a very RARE Leica 21mm f.2.8 ELMAR... Yes, that is what it says on the lens, ELMAR 2.8.  It seems it is an engraving error. There is space for the "it" but it was left off. Must have been time for a coffee break or something.  I don't think the lack of engraving will harm the picture quality but it might hurt the value. But I'm not a collector but a user and its a fine tool which I hope will render me some good images.

The missing letters 'it' won't hurt the value at all. Rather, it might even increase the value of the lens, as it makes it more interesting for a collector. Image quality will be unaffected though 🙂.

I've wanted a 21mm 3.4 SEM and I'm starting the journey.  Taking baby steps because of budget (remodeling some property right now and final cost TBD) so I'm just buying the 21mm viewfinder for now.  I believe I'll get the lens in the coming month but if it takes six months it's ok.  I'm debt averse at this stage in life, especially when it comes to hobbies.

Regarding resale value, my thought is if you don't sell or trade it makes no difference.  Let the wife and kids sort things out after you pass.  🙂

That is awesome. This will mean that soon you will have a 21mm lens to use with 😬 I perfectly understand you, and despite I want really bad to buy a wide lens too (< than 28mm), I will wait more time until $$$ situation will be better. If I don't find in the near future a great Leica bargain, the following 21mm option for me is the CV 21/3.5 Asph ... We'll see.

I've sold my Voigtlander Ultron 21/1.8 Asph. and bought this Nokton 21/1.4 Asph. I'm very happy with it. Beside an almost insignificant chromatic aberration when part of the subject is against a very strong light source, it is a gorgeous lens, very well built and versatile.

I've read great things about. I actually did another thread with a discussion about the CV 21/1.4 vs CV 21/f/3... Using mostly at f/8, the small one would be a better choice for me. But a wide open 21, despite size and weight, it can be very used in a very creative way. Do you use it with external VF or Visoflex?

I have the 21 Ultron, which I love. How would you compare it to the Nokton?

Simone, so far it looks almost the same stunning lens wish 1.4 instead of 1.8, and this allow you to a shorter DOF. The Nokton is more bulky, but looks like a terrific lens. And you can take the shader off which you couldn't on the Ultron. I'm very happy fo this new lens.
