Couple of test pics on Sony A7s mod here: https://lctphot.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/n-HdQ6gN/. My lens was in batch one of these lenses and bought in the first week of release. The first example was unusable and I took it straight back to Richard Caplan along with my M8. They agreed it was terrible and gave me another. I was a bit lukewarm but went along with it, which I have always regretted as they had an ex-demo 75/2 APO Summicron for just a bit more money. Other than technical photos, I cannot think of a single photo I have taken with the 75/2.5 that I think: "that's a keeper". I think what it may be is that it has a wide but not particularly high resolution focus plane, so that the object of the photo does not stand out from the background. It is the diametric opposite of my 90/2.8 Elmarit, where the object focused on jumps right out/pops from the background. The 75/2.5 is better on film than on digital, a bit like my 50/1.4 Summilux III SE, which is not at all bad on digital but wonderful on film and is the lens of choice on my M7 and other film M's. At what aperture(s) did you notice this effect if i may ask? Here at f/2.5. Digital of course. Welcome, dear visitor! Fast lenses are therefore, a vital part of my tool kit, also to get the shallow DOF. I am now pretty much complete for M lenses with my fast lens kit comprising 21/1.5, 28/1.4, 35/1.4, 50/0.95, and 50 /1.4, 75/1.25 and 85/1.5. I would like to add some faster lenses for my R cameras and Leicaflex SL2 but the demand from videographers has pushed the prices through the roof for the various R Summiluxes, so having to make do with various Summicrons. Wilson So if your style requires faster lenses you get them. My style with my M262 mostly involves a 35mm f2.4 summarit used at f5.6 to f16 so the said lens is perfect for me. I have a zuiko 75mm f1.8 which i sometimes use for portraits on my olympus camera. Edited March 15, 2020 by steve 1959

I really cannot recall. It is probably close to 8 years since I last used it. I really should have sold it and will probably do now I have a 75/1.25. The 75 Summarit ended up being the least used of all my Leica lenses and I include things like 1931 Elmar and Anastigmat. Wilson
pippy Posted March 15, 2020 Share #65 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) Just for the fun of it I popped both the 75mm and 90mm f2.5 Summarits on for a couple of throwaway snaps as I was sitting here draining my deoch an dorus. Please excuse the subject matter...it's just what happens to be there!............ Focus was on the right-hand-most-character of the Japanese script on the poster to the left of Ted. I happen to like the oof rendering of both lenses. YMM, of course, V. Both were snapped on a M9M and were treated to no post-prod barring resizing etc. Both snaps were shot wide open and under fairly undeserved parameters (no attempt at lighting whatsoever; body was not set to lens-auto-recognition so neither lens was corrected 'in-body'). Both snapped hand-held at 1/15 sec(!), f2.5 @ ISO 1250; 75mm; Welcome, dear visitor! Xavier Posted March 18, 2020 Share #71 Posted March 18, 2020 For the Summarits, the link specifies the black versions. Does it mean that the chrome versions stay and the black ones go ? Another thing: is it common for Leica to discontinue a lens that they plan to replace within a few months or a year ? (I did not follow the trend, so I cannot say myself)

wlaidlaw Posted March 18, 2020 Author Share #74 Posted March 18, 2020 I don't live in the USA. Post from the USA by the time you have paid for postage, import duty, processing fee, collection charge and 20% Value Added Tax on the entire sum including the original cost, duty, fees and the postage, adds about 60 to 70% or more to the cost. I am trying to source one in Europe. Leica UK has no stock and they don't think it is/was a regular dealer carried item. I will try Meister and Foto-Mundus in Germany in a day or so. That is depending on whether I win a 100mm/2.8 APO Macro-R or not at a local auction tomorrow. If I do, my spare cash will go on a 1:1 Elpro for it, rather than the filter mount for my infrequently used 18mm SEM. Wilson

adan Posted March 19, 2020 Share #77 Posted March 19, 2020 Isn't Meister Camera Leica's "go to" place for off-loading overhanging stock in bulk (R stock when that line closed, R parts more recently)? (I did not follow the trend, so I cannot say myself) The chances of this happening in the current environment/market are very slim. This is clearly a major retrenchment with the short term bonus of a small bump in sales. According to Dr Kaufmann, the company is committed to the M line. Ensuring that happens will require a degree of rationalisation. Leica's resources will, I think, be committed largely to research and development for the next six months or so. 2020 is not going to be a big year for camera/lens sales. Xavier Posted March 19, 2020 Share #80 Posted March 19, 2020 Did not even notice the Chrome Summarits were already gone! Indeed, not the best time for sales. Still I find the discontinuation of this line a loss, there is a use for small/light lenses (I love my 75/2.5, it serves its purpose quite well; I have a Zeiss 35/2.8 but have been thinking about moving to a Summarit ---maybe I should look into the ongoing sales, though my financial state is not great at this point in time). I am less familiar with the other discontinued lenses and items, but it is probably quite bad too. In any case, it is not good news to see the M lens set shrink this way.
