I need three lenses generally but a 35 and a 50 may suffice if i take one FF and and one APS bodies. My favorite combos then are Summilux 35/1.4 v2 & Sonnar 50/1.5 for portraits or family pics, Biogon 35/2.8 & Elmar-M 50/2.8 for landscapes, Summiluxes 35/1.4 FLE & 50/1.4 asph for low light or Summicrons 35/2 asph v1 & 50/2 apo for general photography. Don't ask me what i take for endoscopy and astrophotography :D.

Depends on the situation, with one lens pick, sometimes i carry only the 50mm be it apo or lux, sometimes my 40mm rokkor, there r times with only my 35 distagon or just the classic nokton, but weirdly i never have the guts to carry only the FLE, or the 50 cron alone as well as the 75 VL

Focal length wise, big fan of 28/50 pair. That was what came with me for a month around NZ. The specific lenses may have changed but still very much 28/50 if 2 lenses and a good old small 35mm if just one.

Treat yourself to a pair of M-D (Typ 262) bodies, adan, and that would cease to be a problem...

I have a fair few lenses, but the most used on a daily basis are:

  • 28 Elmarit Aspheric, my daily walkaround lens
  • 35/1.4 Nokton, for low light and slightly closer environmental portraits
  • 50 Summicron V, my idea of a portrait lens

For a two lens kit, it's the 28 Elmarit and 50 Cron. the 35/1.4 Nokton is my single lens kit, although I admit to carrying the 24mm Sony RX0 in my pocket, too.

I just returned to the M after last using an M9.

Now using a M10M with four times the resolution I don’t need a lens closer than 50mm and then cropping as needed. With higher ISO available, I chose compactness over speed so its a Summarit.

But a love ultra wide angles so I also have a 12mm.

50mm and 12mm.

I use 35mm and 75mm, both f2.4 Summarits, with an M262. It took me a year to decide which lenses - nearly went with a 28mm/50mm combo. Had just decided on 35mm Summicron with 75mm Summarit on an M240 when I noticed that at that time Leica were selling a bundle that included the M262 plus the two Summarits and a flash, which has turned out to be everything that I need in one kit.

I bought the Leica as a lightweight travel kit so I have deliberately avoided buying any more lenses precisely so that I won’t have to dither over which ones to bring, or risk carrying so much stuff that its no longer a lightweight kit.

I do also have a more comprehensive Nikon SLR kit for work but most of the time the Leica kit with just the two lenses is good enough for what I’m doing and easier to travel with.

It's still early days for me as a very recent Leica owner but I seem to be gravitating towards

1/ 25mm on Leica III. The viewfinder and focussing on these old cameras is very difficult for glasses wearer like me but a lens you focus using distance scale and a slide on viewfinder seems a good compromise

2/ 50mm on Leica M3. The viewfinder and focussing on this camera is a gem and so well suits 50mm you'd choose nothing else

I now have a CL which can use any of my lenses with adapters, starting out with an Elmar 50/3.5 from 1935, plus I got a Nokton 35/1.4 en-route
