mmradman Posted February 2, 2020 Share #42 Posted February 2, 2020 When talking of wanted and seldom needed MP maybe the test is to put the photographer in front of an African Crocodile 😁

If so, cropping a full frame 40mp sensor to m4/3 dimensions is only 10mp, much less than your photo at 16mp.
jaapv Posted February 2, 2020 Share #44 Posted February 2, 2020 Of course it is real and shot with a telephoto - I wouldn't be here posting otherwise. GX8 and DG Vario-Elmar 100-400.

Keep in mind that the M10 Monochrom, without a color array, behaves more like a 60-ish MP camera. The M246 will be closer in resolution to a 40 MP color based M. Jeff Thanks, good to know, I can test for the mythical M11 although I know nothing of it but hear it mentioned quite frequently here on the forum. If the M246 is close to 40mp resolution the issues with the rangefinder and lenses (non color issues) should be well documented, I'll have to do a search. Thanks again. Jeff S Posted February 2, 2020 Share #48 Posted February 2, 2020 Jono’s article on the M246 might help. The Intro addresses the resolution issue I raised. http://www.slack.co.uk/2015/Elliott.html Jeff

Those issues have to do with the mathematical pixel count, not with the virtual one of a monochrome sensor.

Nitnaros Posted February 2, 2020 Share #51 Posted February 2, 2020 I think technical advancement of sensors will not only push MP up, but also dynamic range, low light capabilities etc so a decision to upgrade is in most cases not just a „MP question“, it all goes synchronously up I would be interested in an M10R that offers additional sensor-based technological advancements. I just was force-upgraded to an M10-P from my M9 with sensor corrosion, and I don’t miss the M9 a second. the argument „if you can’t take a good photo on 24MP, you won’t on 40MP either” is true ... but I can take a good photograph on 24, hence 40+ are of interest to me. Computing power was mentioned - I use a regular 13” MacBookPro for my 50 MP Fuji GFX files ... no problem at all. 2

The alleged high-resolution issues have to do with pixel size, which is the same on a monochrome sensor as on a Bayer sensor at the same MP count The main difference is the resolution loss by interpolation, which obviously won’t affect motion blur. But if he puts the M246 and on a tripod, he’ll likely get a better idea resolution-wise of print size/crop potential vis a vis the (predicted) 40 MP M10R than he would if he did the same with the M10M, which punches well above its 40 MP resolution weight. Of course there are many other issues to consider when comparing cameras, especially with different generation technologies. Naturally the best way to test is to wait for the M10R, applying one’s own typical shooting and PP practices. Jeff
darkinners Posted February 3, 2020 Share #54 Posted February 3, 2020 Only if it have IBIS and keep the camera same form factor as current M10/M10-P then yes I will upgrade, otherwise I will stick with my M10-P

I have a canon 5dsr and can't get a RAW of less than 85 mb; sure there's a lot to look at and you can crop it to death, but the MB add up and are slow to download

I am completely fine with having the extra MB. That's a given when you have more detail and image to look at. I am completely ok with that. Kinda ironic buying an M camera to "slow down" yet here we are complaining about waiting an extra 30 seconds to download files. Lol. I welcome the more megapxiels in the next M. The detail is incredible and so are the possibilities for blur. in camera stabilization would be great for a large MB M. I love using the 5dsr for landscapes but only when it's on top of my gitzo tripod. I don't regret the purchase (from Canon directly in their refurbished shop for about 1/2 the price of retail), but its a touchy camera, not a workhorse like my 1dxmii Here are some examples https://richardnlipow.com/colorado-fall-2019 Edited February 4, 2020 by rnl
roma Posted February 4, 2020 Share #58 Posted February 4, 2020 I always want better pixels, not more pixels. Hope Leica keeps improving color at higher ISOs at 24Mpix so we can shoot real street photos at f4 or f5.6 at night.
