setuporg Posted February 7, 2020 Share #83  Posted February 7, 2020 (edited) So to paraphrase the game "will it float?", an S100 gives one endless fun along the lines "will it focus"? Which becomes yet another area where the S is different from a "govnozerkalka", or "the DSLRs as abundant as sh*t", a facetious name the Russian online veterans used to refer to the canikons before the ascent of the mirrorless. Sometimes it will focus via AF, sometimes OVF MF will do, and sometimes you'll need Live View MF with the BBF to boot. Though in an SL2 with an adapter, and endless fun guaranteed! Jan1985 Posted February 7, 2020 Share #84 Â Posted February 7, 2020 I am really in trouble... Should I keep the 100mm and buy it or not?... I even have the 70mm and the 120mm CS... Should I let the 120mm go and sell?

No, of course not! Buy all the lenses for S. There's only a few and once you have them all, that's it!

setuporg Posted February 8, 2020 Share #88  Posted February 8, 2020 The progression is very logical and they are all wonderful. Jeff reminded me that there's a TS lens for S, and I always wanted one since playing with Lens Babies. So it just catalyzed that idea. peterv Posted February 8, 2020 Share #90  Posted February 8, 2020 Jan, if you see half a chance to survive financially, buy it. You'll have one more option around the normal to short tele range, a normal angle, a dedicated macro and a dedicated portrait lens. If these lenses represent your vision, they're a good investment into your work.  Prices are not going to be lower than they are now I'd guess, now is a good time to buy in my opinion.

Jan1985 Posted February 8, 2020 Share #92  Posted February 8, 2020 I could get the 100mm for around 4.000€ used. 1

I’ve also seen the CameraWest website with nice offerings, but for me being in the EU, I would need to go through all the import hassle.

But, I have the SL (1) and the adapter, so I have a 35 f/2.5 for the SL as well as the other lenses. Â If you need fast focus lenses, obviously the SL lenses are faster, and I have the SL 90-280, but paired with the S 30, 35, 45, 70 and 120 both bodies together have a nice set of lenses. Â Also, I think used S lenses have a deeper discount than the use SL lenses...

Ok... The S100 is definitely some what special and unique in rendering as I can see after my first portrait shoot.

In this example I intended one eye in focus standing a certain angle to the plane of the face. Still have this lens for testing from the dealer. I am really bothering if I should buy it for 4000 Euros....
