Mdol Posted December 31, 2019 Share #1  Posted December 31, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, It was easy to preview the aperture effect (close the diaphragm) with the front fn button on the SL. But I cannot find how to do that with SL2.  Any info about that ?  thanks !
Advertisement Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 Hi Mdol, Take a look here No more aperture preview with SL2 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted December 31, 2019 Share #2 Â Posted December 31, 2019 Half press the shutter release? Just a guess.

Not by default. I haven't bothered to see if there is a setting for this. Instead, I have my camera's Auto Review setting on Shutter Pressed. If I want to examine DoF or anything else for that matter, I just do it after the shot.
Mdol Posted December 31, 2019 Author Share #4  Posted December 31, 2019 Yep. That’s the way around I have found also. But it would be great to have that in a future FW release.

I'm not recommending camera to anyone right now until software/firmware more complete.
spassig123 Posted January 1, 2020 Share #6  Posted January 1, 2020 Hello Do I understand the postings. 1) When I start the shoot the system measure by full 100% open aperture? 2) When I press the trigger it is not possible to close the aperture from 100% open to define working aperture? 3) When I press the trigger half it is not possible  to close the aperture from 100% open to define working aperture? jplomley Posted January 1, 2020 Share #7 Â Posted January 1, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Omission of DOF preview switch is a major oversight on the SL2 for those doing landscape photography or any other application where the photographer wants to control the depth / plane for focus. tom0511 Posted January 1, 2020 Share #8  Posted January 1, 2020 I shot some macro today. I really want and need this feature. I hope Leica listens.

Alistairm Posted January 1, 2020 Share #10  Posted January 1, 2020 I am so used to DOF preview, I have been missing this too. With the EVF being otherwise spectacular, this must surely be a future firmware implementation...
lct Posted January 1, 2020 Share #11  Posted January 1, 2020 When half pressing the shutter release, the camera can lock the exposure i suppose. Doesn't it show the preview you're after this way? Just curious again.

Chuck Albertson Posted January 1, 2020 Share #13 Â Posted January 1, 2020 The SL2 also doesn't include the shutter speed preview (second press of the funk button on the SL), which is really handy for previewing dragging-shutter pics at night. I think it was just an oversight, and wouldn't be surprised to see it included with a firmware update.
lct Posted January 1, 2020 Share #14  Posted January 1, 2020 Seems so strange that i wonder if my questions are clear enough. The camera does AE lock like any other one i guess. And it can do it by half pressing the shutter release like any other one too. Suppose that you lock exposure at f/11 on a f/2 lens this way. When you half press the shutter release, the image you see in the EVF should be at f/11 as well. Do you mean that it remains at f/2 then? I must be missing something but i don't know what. AE lock does not close the aperture to working aperture. It just stops recomputing exposure values (aperture, shutter speed, ISO). The aperture stays wide open if you do AE lock with shutter half-press.
Macberg Posted January 1, 2020 Share #16  Posted January 1, 2020 In the German forum, someone wrote that the DOF preview will be back with the coming firmware update. 1
