Everything I can think of takes two button presses or two steps of some kind, followed by a half-press to return to action.  I use the quick menu.

That's what I do and I am bothered by it.  You cannot do it without taking your eye off the EVF and you have to hit the right place on the LCD.  And not for instance "format SD card".  And make sure it's now MF and go back.  I'd rather assign it to the weird little front double-button doing AF mode with the bottom half by default...

I wonder why you guys need to switch quickly between AF and MF. In AF mode, while half-pressing the shutter, I can override AF and focus manually by turning the focusing ring.

Yes, and then your finger slips and you've taken a shot, or it's AFed again!

I don't have a SL2, but it is the same generic problem as on the SL (and CL), which I'd hoped they would correct on the SL2: the inability to assign a single/toggle action to a button - you can only assign menu items.

Yes ...... on the SR1 you can assign almost any submenu item to a function key .....  and if it does bring up multiple options you can often just repeatedly press the same button to toggle through them.

That's it!   Do you know?:)

With Leica L lenses, put them on manual mode and AF will be only available on the joystick and manual focus on the focusing ring.

No button to push.

+1 on that. I was always wondering where this idea came from that pressing a button would make a menu showing up where you then have to select things and confirm selection, instead of simply switching on and off a specific thing. It seems totally counter-intuitive to me. To be fair though, Leica is not the only manufacturer that does it this way...another great example of this annoying behaviour...Sony:)

It is very annoying when shooting wildlife , you need to instantly grab hold of the focus ring and manually focus , without the need of any button. I hope they can fix this on the firmware .. I have lost so manny shots of wild turkey and other fine feathered friends because of a branch or brush in the foreground the autofocus locked on .. its silly

That is where the AF Profile selection and fine tuning on the 'Depth' becomes necessary. Desensetise the Depth if you do not want an obstruction of a front focus object gets in the way while you track focus.

With SL/SL2 cameras you can instantly grab hold of focus ring and manually focus, either by using BBF or by keeping the shutter button half pressed and rotating the focus ring. What kind of fix would you like to have added?

As with other cameras, the fastest way is to turn the focus ring.
If you need to quickly and temporary 'switch' to MF, switching to MF via a button is too slow. Instead, you keep your left hand on the focus ring and override AF when necessary.

Agree. I've used this method for countless wildlife shots with the SL, especially with Leopards in trees with branches & leaves in the way, or Lions in long grass. There's no other way to do this. I use AF very  selectively with my wildlife work.

Whatever works for you, and at present there is no choice - the half shutter press is the only option.
I'd rather have the option of a quick switch to MF with no risk of a finger slip on the trigger while focusing.

Any reason not to use BBF? I assume that you do not have Lumix lenses with the mechanical clutch as they switch to MF quickly.

P.S.: How do I see to whom the response is directed when a quote is not used?
