Yes, that's the definition of alliance.  (Only a small problem with the way Leica activates BBF on SL and SL2).

There's another problem. The Sigma L adaptor for Canon lenses (MC-21) works on Sigma and Panasonic L cameras but won't work on Leica L/TL mounts. This is an odd, unexplained incompatibility, and  most importantly it prevents use of the fantastic Canon 100-400 II on Leica bodies.

The Panasonic clutch mechanism that switches between AF and MF on certain lenses (including the S 70-200 Pro) presents issues on the Leica bodies.  I considered the long zoom, but found a mint used SL 90-280 at a great price instead.

What exactly is the problem with the clutch?

Sorry, this is incorrect. (Since end of November there is a firmware upgrade that allows now also using lens IS)  It works on the SL2.  (But not SL. Leica says because the MC-21 is not fully compliant ...) And there are people who have used the EF 100-400 v2 on the SL2, even with IS.

This is a useful lens list.   https://www.tttphotography.com/sigma-mc-21-ef-l-lens-adapter-compatibility/

Don't "be sorry"! This is great news, and I really appreciate knowing of it.

Of course, it's too bad it still doesn't work with the CL, since that becomes its own 1.5x extender. Perhaps a FW upgrade?

That list is for S1/S1R, not for SL/SL2.

I assume in-camera lens profiles are not part of the alliance so using the SL 16-35 on a Panasonic camera will not create raw files corrected in camera?

I would assume that they share lens profile and DFD (focusing) data. S1R camera attaches built-in profile information to images taken with Leica SL lenses. I have no way to check if it is the same information as the one included by SL2 cameras, but I hope/assume so.

Fortunately, your assumption is incorrect.  Using the SL 16-35 on a Panasonic camera will create RAW files with opcodes that contain the Leica specified corrections for this lens.

I have a way to check but am too busy to post links to RAW files taken with the same lens on a Panasonic body and the SL2.

You have the link, so ask the creator about this. I use it for the SL2.  Any more snarky remarks from you ?

Maybe I should not have posted it, so that you cannot utter your indignation. But I am sure some other users will be glad to have it.

I am sorry for misunderstanding, but my intention was not to be snarky, only to point out that the data that you linked to may not be applicable to SL and SL2 cameras. The list is created by S1/S1R owners who report their experience. That does not mean it would work on Leica cameras.

I am not using the adapter (yet), so I have no interest in such a table. But it would be great if someone could start a sticky forum post of experiences with the adapter on SL and SL2 cameras (which lenses work, which do not).

The SL is not supported (statement by Sigma), maybe (probably) it never will. With the SL2 the risk is small that the adapter works differently. (See alliance).

If anybody, then Sigma should put together such a list.

BTW found that you started the image thread for the S-VE SL 16-35, @Chaemono!  Where are those trams in the original shoot?  Are you still enjoying the zoom as much as you did the first time?:)

The first pictures in the S-VE SL 16-35 thread were taken at a steel mill turned museum that was in operations from 1854 till 1987.  The ‘museum’ is located in the heavily urbanized and what used to be heavily industrialized area of the Ruhr region.

This lens is one of the most challenging but also most rewarding lenses to use and is, therefore, one of my favorites.

There are now 6 cameras.

The SL 16-35 is also my preferred wide angle zoom. But for astrophotography the Sigma f2 24-35 Art is even better.

What’s the 6th? SL2, S1,S1H, S1R and FP.

I didn’t count the CL or TL2 as they’re not 135 format. Probably should have though.
