Are there fake lenses of any brand? Only the Helios 44 comes to mind but, who really cares...

This is a non issue. Surprised it was even discussed to this extent. Your lens is authentic. Looks beautiful, as the images from it will. Enjoy 🙂

Plenty of Russian Industars masquerading as Elmar 5 cm / 3.5 lenses... :p

Hey, guys, none yet did note that the depicted lens is NOT a standard Lux asph 50 ? Is the special edition "old barrel"... 500 items iirc… so an easily verifiable item.

Yes it looks to one of the original 'Retro' Summilux asph lenses that was restricted to 500 units at release - I am fortunate to have one and they are wonderful lenses and show the vignetting in the corners wide open that the OP mentions.  They are no longer so rare since I understand that Leica has released at least another two batches owing to demand and popularity.

Pete.

Indeed, this is the 50 Summilux Black Chrome version. I bought the lens and tested it out extensively already. The original owner bought it from a Leica store. Very sharp wide open even to the 3/4 of the way to the edge. Light fall off is very nice to the corner.

Thanks everyone.

I think my copy is 1,251 / 500

I compare it with the vintage model and new version is longer in length but has 0.7m closest focus instead of 1m.  However I think the vintage model design is more sophisticated as you can disassembled the focus module in a fly and the focus is still very accurate.  I believe the machining of the screw grooves are in very very very high precision to achieve that.

It is not a feature of the lens AFAIK but my experience is limited to 50/1.4 v2 and v3. I would ask Luigi or other colleagues of the collectors forum to be sure but i may be wrong.

Quite true, but only for the black chrome version. The silver chrome version of this lens was only available as part of the first limited edition.

The chrome version wasn't available in the first edition or I would have one.  I think it was added to the next batch following a request from the LHSA.

Is there a chrome/silver version of this lens (yet). The silver and black paint 50th Aniversary LHSA versions were of the APO-Summicron.A version that has virtually doubled in asking price.

As the lucky owner of a silver chrome version of that lens (which says LHSA on its barrel), I was not aware that there were two editions at the time. But be that as it may, it is one hell of a lens.

OK, yours I guess is the version for the MP3 LHSA camera. I was picking up on Pete's point of 'added to next batch' (after the initial run of 500).

I think your LHSA version was also available in black paint, but lovely to have either. Lucky you!

Yes, Keith, a satin silver (chrome) version was released a few years ago in quite limited numbers but well after the MP3.  I have an idea it was linked to a LHSA anniversary and the LHSA lobbied Leica to produce more after the LHSA version was quickly snapped up by LHSA members so Leica released it as a 'non-LHSA' ie non-engraved edition.  As far as I remember it attracted a premium price even higher than the black chrome version.

I think the difference between this one and the MP3 lens is that this one is marked as "asph" but the MP3 lens wasn't - even though it was asph.  I think I need a lie down now.😄

Pete.

I have this picture in my archive… apparently a MP3 edition with Lux 50 asph marked accordingly… but of course can't swear it's an original kit : even don't remembere where I downloaded the pic from…

Afaik Summilux 50 never had the focus module Customer-dismountable.  But the V2 has a pair of screws that make to think it indeed can be easy… but i never did on my V2... B)
