I put in a pre-order with a Leica dealer on November 9th, and didn't have any idea where I was in the queue. Yesterday, I went to the Leica online store about something else and discovered that an SL2 was immediately available. I purchased it, and it is being delivered overnight today. Funny thing, I had submitted an email on the site to let me know when the SL2 was in stock, but never received one. So, it might be a good idea to monitor the online store if you're way down on a list.

Can you share link to the store? TIA

My US dealer (Camera West) received mine on Tuesday and I picked it up in the afternoon.

I traveled through Frankfurt last week and noted that the export price from the local Leica store for travelers sans VAT worked out to about US $5095. And. most Leica L lenses were, after VAT refund, around $3500 - $4000. $1K to $2K cheaper than the new 25% lens tariff in the US.

My local dealer is highly recommended, really excellent and very supportive, so I continue to buy locally. But the lens tariff is so steep that I might reconsider how I buy Leica lenses in the future.

Hi Ron.  Glad you made it back OK.  But did the FRA airport photo store have stock to sell?  In the past, they have had only demos, which they have to keep for 6 months..  Of course, staying in the area for a day, or purchasing a camera to be shipped to the US provides the same arbitrage opportunity.

My SL2 is supposed to be in the store tomorrow.

UK cameras seem to be coming through after a slow start - a dealer in the UK emailed to offer me an SL2 yesterday. I’m passing as I picked mine up in Singapore on launch day. It sounds like there is a bit of flow of cameras rather that a spurt of deliveries at launch and then nothing.

Jeff, yes sure am. It’s going to be very interesting to compare results. I have three shoots booked in next week in fact.

Just picked up my preordered SL2 and that one was the only one the dealer has received so far.
One authorised dealer for state of 4 million plus people. Feeling special mine is the only one sold north of the border so far

SL2 en-route....... :)

My dealer (a Leica Boutique) had expected 3 by 25/11 but there was an unspecified delay in shipping from Germany till the end of this week ..... which seems to coincide with the flurry of posts above.

I suspect Leica had two prepared batches ..... one for mostly Leica Stores for immediate release and a second for release to other dealers the following week. I note Leica Mayfair at the beginning of the week were showing SL2's available for order and delivery in '10-14 business days' .... and this has now vanished with 'not available for order online' instead. Several of the German Leica Stores state 'delivery in approx 3 months'  ...... so I suspect we will be back to the usual 8-12 week hiatus before they assemble another batch.

My S1R is sitting in the corner looking nervous.

Things got just as messed up in the US.  My dealer (just a store) got 2 and was only able to pick up a third (for me) by calling in some old favors.  "Bundles" started to appear at a few Leica Stores and just as quickly disappeared. It may have occurred to someone that salesmen with a list of early orders from customers who already had the high-tariff lenses would try to sell them the bundles and end up getting everybody upset.  Or maybe there was a small matter of proper paperwork that wasn't quite ready.  Anyway the bundles are now an early 2020 option.  Lots of good stories about what held up the flood of anticipated cameras.  But still no flood.

My S1R is eager to welcome her brother with all the unlabeled buttons.  Perhaps she can show him what they are for.  The SLs are not so sure.

But I assume it would be happy serving as the SL2s sister...?

I'm fairly confident that my S1R will remain my primary Landscape body ...... the SL2 may come along as a 2nd body .....  and probably used for other things.

Having spent 8 months with the S1R I have come to appreciate just how much thought Panasonic have put into the functionality and ability to customise this camera ... and there are some features I now could never live without.

Understand. I have a suspicion that highlights are better preserved (=less harsh clipping from tonal information to washed out highlights) in SL2 than S1R. Too early to conclude since I havn't had too much time with the SL2 yet, but something to keep in mind for landscape photography.

Good news on the SL2 incoming.

I think I might be on the list at the same boutique, as the story matches.

I was, apparently, fourth on the list for the three coming in, so I really hope you were No. 3 🙂

Numero uno .... and another poster who was  'probably' on their list (from his description, and we only have Clifton, Harrison and Red Dot to choose from) as well appears to have got one whilst in Singapore last week....... so all is not lost. I had an email regarding the order at 7.40am this morning. With all these things it depends on replies from those who have put in pre-orders, which makes it difficult to know how long to wait before assuming you have missed out....

That is encouraging! As long as the boutique is named after a nice bridge. And #2 on the list doesn't fancy a spare! 🙂

First time doing a Leica pre-order (I have done Fujifilm ones before, but I think the production capacity is a little different)

In fact it is my first time buying a Leica camera brand new, all three previous have been pre-loved.

Cheers, John
