Leica M lens 21mm

Dear users, 

I found this lens on ebay and I am considering buying it for me, it seems to be in mint condition.

That is a current lens - and a very good one too. It should do absolutely fine on your M10.

In a nutshell: yes, amazing lens, probably the best 21 out there if you don't need faster. You can't go wrong. Good luck!

That lens is definitely not in 'mint condition'.

Overall, it's cosmetically ok, but it's dusty and there appears to be droplets of liquid around the front element as if the seller has sneezed on it.  It's not clear to me if it is 6-bit coded and the front retaining ring seems to be scuffed around the  slots, indicating possible removal or replacement.  The zip on the leather case is showing signs of wear, but that in itself doesn't mean much.

Personally, I'd avoid it unless the seller could provide more detailed images and a return policy.  

Caveat Emptor, as usual with Ebay.

All of the 21 SEM's were 6-bit coded at introduction.

But I agree, this isn't a stellar copy and for a few more Euros, you'll be safer getting a used one from a reputable dealer with some warranty.

I'm actually amazed that he didn't clean the lens up before taking the photos. 

I have never bought an expensive item without assuring myself through careful examination of seller's feedback that the seller has successfully sold expensive equipment before. When I look at his feedback as a seller, I don't see anything close to this in price--though I didn't look that carefully.

The lens is far away from mint condition, so I wonder about the final lens price of this auction. There is another one offered for 1750€ in better condition and one year warranty, this I would prefer.

Returns refused, no warranty besides e**y's, thanks no thanks for more than 1,000 EUR.

My recent experience with a used 28 (Elmarit IV) is 400 Euros for a good professional CLA/calibration : I think that if glass of the Super Elmar here discussed isn't scratched, factorizing  a cost in this range would result in a good buy.

Not mint - minor chips, paint missing from f8 line on aperture ring.  Mint is the most abused word in the photography section of eBay.  Also looks like it's been dropped in a vacuum cleaner bag.  I agree that it's surprising that someone selling such an expensive lens hasn't bothered to clean it up.
