ah...the forever existing (in some) desire to 'be seen'...

thus being preyed upon...how much is he milking you for?

no practical benefit at all...rather opposite effect...open gate for dust, catching zippers etc..

Just bought one of these copies from eBay in the UK for £4:95 ($6 US) post free, will let you know what it is like on my Q when it arrives.

Can't believe that there was no response to this thread from the original seller ... or for that matter that people are still buying them from him!

Unfortunately the 'spider web' is still set and flies will inevitably fly into it.

It's a bona fide looking site so people will assume that there's no problem ordering from it, as they would any other website, and they'll only find this and similar threads when they run out of patience and start looking to see if anybody else has had a problem.

Pete.

I bought a similar from ebay a while ago, and this thing sucks! vignetting like a hell.

Overgaard thing is surely costly and he doesn't ship sometimes. But look at his shade, there is kind of flower shape cut on the rim, which prevents vignetting. It's a nice design.

that being said, I am not going to order one, too pricy and useless. Who needs a shade for 28mm? I am fine with the manufacturer's rectangle one.

Did you specify it was for a 28mm?  Most of the off brand are for a 35mm.  I have one that was specifically for 28mm and it works perfectly.

No vignetting with this one but in all honesty it isn't up to much, very thin metal and quite different feel to the original Leica hood (no surprise there!). That said it fits, screws on and off cleanly and without any hint of anything going wrong. It's smooth and light and if I need or want to use it, it was cheap enough to care or not.

Of course you are right, a lens hood isn't necessary for a 28mm lens but for me, the protection a hood provides is well worth using one. :)

There are hoods advertised specifically for the Q for a small fraction of the price of the Overgaard hood, e.g.:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Haoge-LH-LQ-Metal-Typ116-Camera/dp/B081S6GH72/

(plain URL in case the forum software re-directs it: www.amazon.co.uk/Haoge-LH-LQ-Metal-Typ116-Camera/dp/B081S6GH72 )

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322299062730

Looks like the first one uses the outer hood thread, while the second one uses the filter thread but has a 2 piece design so you can apparently tighten it without rotating the hood.

I don't remember there was an option to specify the focal length.

Do you have a link to the product I can have a look? but to the point, why does 28mm need a shade anyway? it's more for looking rather than functioning

Unfortunately I purchased my hood from a retailer a few years ago...there is no name on it and have no idea who made it.  Also it is not the vented type...I wasn't worried about it looking 'Leica'...just wanted it to work.

And a lens hood is always a good idea  https://shotkit.com/when-use-lens-hood/

This discussion should probably be pinned "Don't buy from Overgaard".  I purchased my Overgaard lens hood in 2019 shortly after receiving my Q2.  This seemed to be the only alternative available at that time, and the high price seemed at least consistent with other Leica products and accessories.  It took several months with no communication by the seller and lots of emails on my part until it finally arrived.  The product is quite nice, but not worth the trouble.  I am not usually a complainer, but others should be warned not to buy here.
