It depends.

  • If you came from Q, Q2, CL or M10. It is a good thing. Way easier to learn.
  • If you came from SL or S. It can be a huge drawback in usability. Leica has a way to overcome this, look at my Nikon picture. But not sure if it's good enough.

If you work as @LocalHero1953, you are going from 11 direct functions from the back to only 6. Counting joystick and rear dial buttons

You are going from 10 direct functions from right hand (counting all buttons except the left row) to only 7.

Your argument generalised FF vs MF comparison by using examples of two MF lightweight bodies. What about the rest of the MF bodies.

Besides it is not just about weight. It is flexibility including the choice of lenses available for different photography application.

Wo there cowboy - no need to get so aggressive!

I'm not 'arguing' nor was I 'generalising' - my post was quite specific in response to your post....

Look at the grip, this little change makes the SL2 way better to handle than the SL is.

It is finally made for human hands.

This is for me the major improvement over good old SL. It will overcome the missing buttons issue.

Add in all other improvements, the SL2 is way better than SL.

he compared to MF bodies that are in a similar price range as the SL was during its original release

Yes, I know, it's AMAZING. This must definitely be the "milestone" everyone has been talking about ;)

There’s lots of things.  One of the big mysteries involves the sensor.  The French testers weren’t allowed to keep the pictures they took with the SL2.  They will be able to collect them only after the camera’s announcement next week.  If you understand French you can read it on Summilux.net (user mic203, for example).  They were told that the SL2 uses a modified Q2 sensor.  They have no clue. 😂

BTW, I exclude Nicci from that bunch.

Was there mentioned about price anywhere?

If we are price sensitive, then we should not be here in the first place.

well tell that to the person who posted before in the right context..no point telling me

I only see weight of body and lenses comparison. Where is the similar ‘price’ talked about? Are Fuji lenses priced similar to Leica lenses? Perhaps you can highlight what you see that I do not?

Btw why are you giving answer instead of the author?

btw i thought you sold your SL in july..

Original SL price was around 7000, original GFX price was around 7000, and x1d a tad higher..i though that was obvious.

anyways.

moving on.

I hope the superior button layout of the original SL will not be changed by Leica.

Easy to get used to any button layout on a Leica--after all, haptics is one of the things Leica does best.

My original Q has 4 buttons. Then I got a CL which has 3--that's what's going to end up on the SL2. Took me a bit, but, now, Q layout seems old-fashioned and clunky, and much prefer the CL's.

Assuming the Nokishita pics are accurate, the new SL has the three button major controls from the M10 and CL (although they seem to keep changing their sequence).  Then there are four MORE little unlabelled buttons!  The SL had only four (brought down from the S), and needed short and long presses to do all the menu diving to assign them roles.  My hunch is that they won't be so fancy this time.  Just assignable to single functions.  I can easily live with that.  More flexible than the CL, less confusing then the SL.

Three or four buttons, what's the difference? Just be good sports and hand over the money to Leica.

As soon as SL2 is announced a new countdown to a next model will start all over again. A new model will be announced in approximately 4 years, probably with new updated button layout inspired by other models like future CL2, M11, Q3, etc.

By 2023 there should be full range of L Summicrons starting from 21mm and maybe reaching 135mm on sale and maybe even a compatible Sigma lens longer than 280mm, one just need to live long enough.
