Not so much for the 16-35

Not so much, true, but I still find that the OIS in the 24-90 breeds careless practice that shows up when I swap to the 16-35. I have to consciously remind myself to hold it a bit firmer.

To be honest, I ignore OIS - I work to the 2/f rule and try to brace myself against anything nearby, or to make a triangle and control my breathing.  `I don’t go looking for sharpness and shutter speed is not that important to me, unless there is an effect I want (Vieri’s landscapes or Eion’s cyclists).  But I hate unintended motion blur - it’s simply a failure of technique.

One of the primary difference & coexistance of both FF digital cameras of Leica M & SL is on Autofocus capability.

Must be a bunch of old dogs in this forum who does not adapt to AF and see it as an important function on the SL. And sad to continue get comments on the preference is a 1DX for any sports & nature photography.

Leaving your insult aside, sillbeers15, which I don't take personally (😂), mirrorless systems as big as DSLRs with inferior AF performance will struggle commercially. I haven't given up hope that the SL2 will come with PDAF but have no indication for it other than that it will not use 'exactly' the same sensor as the Q2/S1R. 😉

Chaemono, you should know that I careless about insults and shoot straight for facts. I made the conclusion over sufficient period of time observing the response from the members’ post content.

I really think Leica should make an effort to produce a mirrorless with good standing AF capability to support it’s fine optical quality lenses.

Last minute info :

- stabilised sensor

- lighter than SL (now in magnesium vs aluminium body)

- same size as SL. Still weathersealed of course

- bigger fixed LCD

- 3 buttons interface à la CL/Q2 but exactly same total number of function buttons as SL

- same EVF as S1R

- same battery as SL

- available end of November

- 5,990€ inc VAT in EU

I think that you know everything

Thank you!! I suppose it’s not yet known how much lighter?

Is this the last "last minute info?"

Any word on low-light performance, or cine mode? Those are the only two things that I care about. The SL is great, but it could use an extra stop of low-light reach (in other words, a usable 12,800, and a solid 6,400). The thing that worries me about your 47MP rumours is that it's exactly the sort of thing photographers think they need, but it's completely irrelevant. Just like drivers think they need a car that can do 250 km/h... I would much rather have performance that I use, rather than a brochure feature.

Thanks a lot!

Any information about SL’s multifunctional handgrip HG-SCL 4- will it fit?!

yes this would be very valuable info.

Cine Mode with that 47 MPx S1R/Q2 sensor will be 8-bit lame-o LMAO.

I think that's a limitation of the processor and storage, not the sensor.

I understand your point of view, but I doubt that Leica would call something "cine mode" if it didn't perform at least as well as the SL.

Well, that is the problem ...... we all have different priorities.  Personally I would like more pixels AND better dynamic range and low light performance.

Unfortunately it is not that challenging to up the pixel count .....but increasing sensitivity and supplying the processing power to cope with it remains difficult.

Brochure features sell, as most of the buying public are driven by what they want and not what they need.

That's all I'm interested in.

Magnesium, eh? Remember to keep it away from the campfire (1960's memories of the guy in my Boy Scout troop who turned up for a weekender with a new Camp Trails magnesium pack frame. We all had to carry out his stuff that survived the inferno).

Thanks, good points. Let's assume that the SL2 will be able to output at least 10-bit 4K video like the SL, which does so externally. The S1R can only produce 8-bit video internally and externally because the computational demand for that 47 MPx 30/60 fps data must be so huge that not even their new Venus processor can handle it.  This is despite the fact, that the S1R either line-skips (with small 1.1x crop) or crops to APS-C for 4K video.  How the heck then will the SL2 be able to output 4K 10-bit video from those 47-50 MPx 'files?'  They don't even seem to have a new image processor.  But even if they do, it may still not suffice as the S1R shows. IMO, the only way the SL2 will be capable to produce at least 10-bit 4K video is if its high resolution sensor includes built-in memory for buffering.  And that's maybe how the Q2 sensor was 'modified,' it includes built-in DRAM. 😉

+1.  As more lenses become available AF will more and more become the Achilles' heel of Leica preventing wider acceptance.  I also own the Canon EOS R.  As far as AF goes it is simply playing in another league.  Yesterday I was shooting in low light.  I started with the Leica SL but quickly switched to the Canon EOS R because the SL had too much difficulties locking focus.  The EOS R did a much much better job.

100% agree, AF when the light starts going down is awful. It is a pity because the lenses - for example the new crons - are great otherwise
