Advertisement Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Hi tom0511, Take a look here Leica APO summicron 50 SL vs Summilux 50 SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tom0511 Posted September 6, 2019 Share #82 Â Posted September 6, 2019 I would say in this shot at f2.0 maybe very slighty smoother bokeh with the Lux? But I doubt any relevance in reall life. By the way while the Cron looks clearly smaller and feels smaller, the Lux doesnt feel much heavier on the camera, and feels stable in hand. What I try to say is in handling the difference is not that much different as one would assume when seeing the lens size. The Cron focuses faster.

There will be shots with the AF camera where the focus point is off. Edited September 6, 2019 by Chaemono
Chaemono Posted September 6, 2019 Share #85  Posted September 6, 2019 (edited) vor 1 Stunde schrieb prismstorm: So basically the Lux now has no real advantage over the newer APO-Cron? This is not the case and others have answered it. It depends on the genre. If you’re shooting people, or cats for that matter, with the 50 Summilux-SL one eye only will be in focus wide open, with the 50 Summicron-SL both eyes will be in focus wide open. For most other objects, like Tom’s example above, the difference is small. F/1.4 blurs the background more than f/2, obviously. Edited September 6, 2019 by Chaemono
ropo54 Posted September 6, 2019 Share #86  Posted September 6, 2019 (edited) I'm curious as to how the SL 50 Summicron compares to the TL 35 1.4 (which I have used on my SL). Welcome, dear visitor! Chaemono Posted September 6, 2019 Share #87  Posted September 6, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rob, I could try to do some test shots for you this weekend but I have done α7R III with the APO 50 M (renders basically the same) vs. CL with the 35 Summilux-TL. The SL lens will be visibly sharper and show no CA/PF whatsoever. There will be tons of PF with the TL lens wide open. Background blur will basically be the same. See here for the over/under shots mentioned: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-qDx8fd/ Let me know if you still like to see the comparison.

The M10 is a fantastic camera, as is the X1D. Happy shooting!

I own the Lux and am tempted to switch to the new APO 50/2 Cron, and having looked at the MTF curves the new Cron seems to be ahead on contrast and resolution above even the 'reference' level of the Lux, a fact that seems to be confirmed by your observation that the Cron's sharpness at infinity is above the Lux .... Yes in my opinion the cron is better for planar landscapes with everything in focus; and yes the lux at 1.4 has evident less DOF, expecially at a a certain distance, like if you have a full body subject framed. mgrayson3 Posted September 7, 2019 Share #92  Posted September 7, 2019 (edited) Not directly relevant, but I was surprised how little difference there was between the 35/1.4 on the TL2 and the M 50 Cron on the SL. S with 70/2.5 as an extra bonus. TL2 35/1.4 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! SL 50/2 S with the 70/2.5. Not an exact FoV match, but the closest I could come. Chaemono Posted September 7, 2019 Share #93  Posted September 7, 2019 The 35 Summilux-TL renders, adjusted for crop factor, like a 50 Summicron-M/SL, with tons of PF. Let’s see if the tightened and raised contrast curve of the 50 Summicron-SL lends the picture more depth than its APS-C sibling.

These were opened in Preview from DNGs first and exported as JPEGs. No sharpening applied. If you like insanely sharp and optical perfection out-of-the-box with no aberrations, the 50 Summicron-SL is your lens. I will post a few more.
