S1 + APO 50 Summicron-SL Can you see a real difference in those pics at that size?? Just looking quickly... I don't see that much, honestly.
Chaemono Posted September 7, 2019 Share #103 Posted September 7, 2019 It’s very subtle at this size and compression. That’s why I post a link with less compressed JPEGs that can be viewed on a larger screen.

Yes... very noticeable at bigger sizes.
nicci78 Posted September 7, 2019 Share #105 Posted September 7, 2019 Thanks @Chaemono we can tell the difference in smug mug at 100% magnification. How superior the APO 50 SL is. Very crazy. No chromatic aberration at all ! Incredible sharpness. Even at 24MP only. I was wondering if buying it makes sense, as I already have CL + summilux-TL 35. But now I know it will. Even more impatient to try it with SL2.

Yes, I do see the superiority of the SL 50, yet, I also come away being so very impressed with the performance of the TL 35 1.4. I can post links to the DNGs of the pilot, the first pair, if anyone cares. 3
nicci78 Posted September 8, 2019 Share #108 Posted September 8, 2019 Yes please. It will be even more interesting to compare RAW files.
tom0511 Posted September 8, 2019 Share #109 Posted September 8, 2019 I agree that the 50 SL images seem to show a little more depth. Also a little more contrast, considerable less CA.
tom0511 Posted September 8, 2019 Share #110 Posted September 8, 2019 But its not really a fair comparison in regards of price and weight and sensor size.
Chaemono Posted September 8, 2019 Share #111 Posted September 8, 2019 (edited) Yes, of course. These comparisons are not to disparage the 35 Summilux-TL. As Rob said, it’s surprising how good the APS-C pictures are. The fact that the DNGs with the 50 Summicron-SL need very little sharpening means files remain cleaner with less noise. Here are the links to download the DNGs with the pilot. tom0511 Posted September 8, 2019 Share #115 Posted September 8, 2019 Even more interesting would be the size comparison between the 23/2.0 TL and the 35/2.0 SL lenses.
nicci78 Posted September 8, 2019 Share #116 Posted September 8, 2019 (edited) Not really. Summilux-TL 35mm f/1.4 is equivalent to 50mm f/2.1 in 24x36 So it is a direct competitor to APO-Summicron-SL 50mm f/2.0 However Summicron-TL 23mm f/2 has variable aperture from f/2.0 to f/2.8 when close focused. So it is only equivalent to 35mm f/3.0 to f/4.2 in 24x36 Not really comparable to APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f/2.0 The latter is a perfect lens vs a so so lens in TL world.
