Have you seen the price people pay for Leica boxes on eBay?  Better to pay the duty and get a refund by selling the box :)

Better to take it out of the box, break that box down, fold it up and put it in your bag... fly home, make a sandwich, open your laptop and then sell that badboy on evilBay. $$$$

I interpreted the “available shortly” print on the graphic as meaning that the initial production batch is 750 and there will be more later.

I doubt it. I always suspected the 240 wasn’t as popular as Leica had hoped, hence the speed the 262 appeared. Add to that the apparent success of the M10 and Leica may have a significant overstock of 240 parts. I doubt many would buy a new, full-price 240 anymore.

The end of a-la-carte and this launch of the new M-E suggests Leica is rationalising the stock and parts it holds, so I suspect the 750 clears the shelves of overstock.

You're probably right, but if it's a hit I'll bet they find a way to make more.

When your thoughts begin from M-mount lenses:

The CL has the Ms' form factor more or less but is APS-C.
The SL has the Ms' full frame but is a different animal in size and weight.
Ah, for an M form factor, full-frame camera with EVF to use M-mount lenses from 15mm to 135 mm...

Not sure i could afford it but i am hoping the uk price on the last m type 262 cameras drop to about £3,000 or less and i can snap one up to go with the one i have.

I have 3 lenses but hate changing lenses so would love to reduce the need by having 2 bodies.

Camera body wise that would set me up for life as im 60 years old.

Steve, at 60 years old, you are young 😉.

But "Leica for life" is old adage, not true anymore ( for me digital camera "IS" designed to be replaced sooner or later ).

M (typ 262) is the lightest in M (typ 240) family and the best candidate for second body.

My surprise is the weight of the M-D (typ 262) that is a couple of grammes more than the M240.

So less is more or the LCD module weights less  than a plain cover.

Well when say "for life" i mean i hope to get 10 years use out of my m type 262.

If i was able to get a 2nd body another 262 would be my preference as i dislike video and live view but like to be able to sometimes review my images on a screen.

Also the battery is the same unlike say the m10.

I see a 9 year old camera costing just under £4000, that has terrible banding issues. I bought an MP 240 a few years back and returned it within a week. Loved the camera (aesthetically) but couldn’t live with the dreadful sensor (imoa). Why not pick up a used like new condition M10 for a couple hundred £’s more. Seems like a no brainer to me.

@wilks how bad was the branding at ISO’s lower than 3200?

Thanks

I would say up to iso 800 was ok. The problem was if you wanted to open up the shadows in post. Awe full green banding. Iso 1600 was the limit I would want to go. However exposure had to be spot on.

Take the video out and fix the price down...!!!

Video out, but ...price would go up 😞.

In the past, when Leica took out something from regular M, price went up.

It costs to Leica to take those features off, more work than just using plain modules.

I find it really unfair. Have you never seen Mercedes or Cadillac sell at the half price a model befor put it off production?

A Type 240 with this price kills the second hand market for this model, regardless the presence or the lack of a single functionality.

I paid my MP 240 6K€. How much Can I get selling it? 2K€?  Very disappointed.

I agree! Leica has destroyed the market value for my used M240. I use it as a back-up to my M10 and would want to sell it when the successor to the M10 arrives. I suspect that Leica may have an abundance of M240 bodies so it is relatively inexpensive to produce this "new" camera. The analogy is for BMW or Mercedes to sell one of their 2017 models new at half the price in 2019. Buyers of BMW, Mercedes and Leica pay extra for the greater resale value of the product. Leica is ignoring the economic needs of its customers to its peril.

None. The banding only occurs when the user underexposes (severely) Normally it is operator error by photographers used to sophisticated matrix systems on more automation-orientated cameras.

Leica has destroyed? I believe, that a free market generates prices: Supply and demand. The M-E is not an M 240 and I certainly don't believe my M 240 has lost any value since this notice of the M-E . I think we all know that emotions generate more loss of money than any manufacturer can manipulate. ( See the movie : The big short:

Who knows what will happen to prices? But at the moment in the UK a used 240, from a dealer, will cost around £2500-£3000, so £500 less than the new M-E, which is a good chunk towards a lens. So maybe people will still be prepared to pay that kind of price for a used 240.

That would depend on how many megapixels the BMW or Mercedes has.

Luxury car buyers lose plenty of money in resale. Pay lots, loose lots. Who knows, but Leica might just be gaining customers who felt left-out. "The first dose is free."
