Absolutely marvellous! Thank you for showing us what's possible with this camera. That is really an amazing result!

I appreciate your kind words. I love the challenge and encourage you to do the same pushing the envelope of what this great camera can do.

Leica Guy, your picture of the moon is absolutely grogous and makes me curious about using a telescope with my Q2

Didi you ever tried your Swarovski Spotting Telescope with wildlife, if this work well it would be killer system for wildlife here in Costa Rica.

On tripod. I tried to use the Digiscoping mode, but it automatically sets the ISO at 400 and I did not want that so I went strictly with a 3-shot bracketed exposure, manual focus, using focus peaking which worked well.

Just purchased my Leica Q2 which is my first ever Leica.  I must say that the EVF is the best I have ever used.  The colour straight out of the box is so true to the scene and the DNGs when imported to Lightroom are a perfect match to the EVF, without any correction.

Loving the Macro feature and the manual focus is just incredible in comparison to other mirrorless cameras I've used.  Focus peaking actually works and is so accurate.

Only negative is the noise.  I'm hoping that Leica will improve upon this in FW updates...is that even possible ?

Apologies for not replying sooner. I lost track of this thread.

Short answer is no, I’ve not used the spotting scope much for wildlife. I have big Canon lenses (600 f/4) and they perform extremely well for wildlife.

In the interest of exploring possibilities, I might try the spotting scope in the future. It’s possible at the 20X magnification it could produce quality images.  The challenge is any spotting scope has dramatically less light gathering capability than a big prime lens. I do not know the equivalent lens speed, but I can imagine at 20X it’s very slow. My calculation says it’s around f/12.5 so you can imagine a much higher ISO and shutter speed is required. In addition, 20X is equivalent to a 1000mm lens. To take blur free images requires a very solid tripod and carefully touching the camera while shooting.

I’ll try it on some birds in my yard and see how I do. I’ll report back.

Ceiling of the lobby of the Cadillac Place bldg.  Detroit, Michigan.  Originally called the General Motors Office bldg.  When it was built in 1919 it was then the second largest office building in the world.  This, and the building directly across the street from it, the Fisher Building, are never ending sources of amazement to me.  They just don't make them like that anymore!

I am sorry.  I accidentally posted to photos here which I intended to post to the Q2 photos section of this forum.  I have requested the Moderator to move them to the correct location.

Hi again, I just saw this, wow! This is superb. I'm not at all familiar with using a spotting scope or even the Leica APO-Televid system. When used with the Leica digiscoping adapter, do they attach directly or via the eyepiece? Guess I am asking if you only intend to use it with the camera do you need to buy an eyepiece?

Thanks for the reply Viv. How come it would be an overkill? I have read a lot of Q2 users use this for travel and documentary purposes. I am just worried about the post process workflow coming from plain JPG user but I am willing to learn. My goal is to be able to make albums of our family travel and make a compilation of it.

Because shooting jpg with this camera would be like never driving your Porsche faster than 50 km/h.

Sure, you will get good jpgs, but the Leica CL will give you equally good jpgs at far less cost.

When you say eyepiece required.  Is that the digiscoping adapter or did I get lost somewhere else on this thread?

This discussion probably should be in the Digiscoping thread, but I’ll answer anyway. Yes. The spotting scope requires an eyepiece AND to use the Q / Q2 with it the Digiscoping adapter. It clamps around the eyepiece.

The Q2 can only be used for "afocal" (i.e., with an eyepiece) imaging because the lens can't be removed to attach the camera directly to the telescope. The latter is termed "prime focus", where the telescope acts as the lens with no eyepiece in the optical chain.  dSLR's and mirrorless cameras are pretty easy to use for prime focus with a telescope given the appropriate camera amount adapter and sufficient extension to bring the image to focus on the sensor.

Hi all, I'm so excited to be here on the forum and with my new Q2.

I'm coming from another camera brand and really decided to leave as the Q2 blew me away both in the photos but also the feel of it and then the community around it. I have been having a really good look through all the photos on here and actually used them all to decide on sticking with my other camera, the CL or the Q2. Really hope I can get some of my own photos up on here soon for some critiquing also.

And even then your analogy holds.

So what you two are saying is there is no difference in quality between half frame, full frame and medium format if your only using jpeg's?
