gotium Posted December 10, 2019 Share #21 Posted December 10, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) For what it’s worth, about my old comment above about the lens being too big, I got over it. The results are worth it, and I now carry it around regularly. And yes, I like it much more than the lux FLE. 2

Use for travel scenes, street, landscapes. All opinions please. My take is that you don't need a bloated f1.4 lens for that stuff. Try a 35mm summicron asph or a 35mm summarit for a more compact and portable travel combination before you make a decision. 1
jakontil Posted December 11, 2019 Share #23 Posted December 11, 2019 Sometimes i understand we just need to be prepared for all conditions even in low light situation having said that, with the maximum aprture of 1.4, for portrait is great too i havent got the lens but been thinking quite over it despite having the FLE at my disposal
Popular Post Malabito Posted December 11, 2019 Popular Post Share #24 Posted December 11, 2019 I have that lens and use it wit my m10... its a beautiful lens, sharp, amazing bokeh, you name it has it, but..... is big, is actually quite big. So I only use it when i am going to shoot, to photograph something, if its for travel i leave it home. I dont take it with me since it really has some weight and size. For traveling i would rather get something like a summarit, or if you can push it a summicron. I couldnt afford any of those, so i go the zeiss 1.4 and voigtlander skopar 2.4 v2. Images below where taken with the m10 and the zeiss: Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted December 14, 2019 Share #25 Posted December 14, 2019 It seems that every review you read about this lens says that its a fantastic lens. Most lens reviews just confuse me because of the various opinions including reviews of such notable lenses as the summilux or summicrom's. I tried one out in the london camera exchange in bristol and was surprised how little finder blockage was present and that it was not that big. I really like my 35mm f2.4 summarit and im not convinced that its a better lens or that i would find the extra speed useful on my m262. In other words im not sure i would use it but it sounds like a great piece of glass.
Archiver Posted December 17, 2019 Share #26 Posted December 17, 2019 I tried the Distagon at a shop recently, and was smitten by it. I'm used to the rendering of the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 and f1.2 Noktons, which is quite glowy and low contrast, so I was really impressed with how sharp and contrasty the Distagon is wide open. Handling is wonderful, it's smaller than the Voigtlander 35/1.2, and I could imagine using it as a primary lens for travel, landscape and some environmental portraiture. Having said that, I tend to prefer small lenses on a M body, the smaller, the better, so I'd either stick with my Noktons, or buy the new Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 for something different. Viktorh Posted December 17, 2019 Share #27 Posted December 17, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't have the f1.4 Distagon, but the ZEISS C Biogon T 2,8/35 ZM on my M10p and I'm super happy with it so far. Thinking of getting a Planar T* 2/50 soon. But I was wondering if someone knows what lens profile in the M10 Lens Detection Menu are recommanded for the Zeiss lenses? Any hints?

The Zeiss ZM 50/2.0 has similar optical design to the Summicron-M 50, and I would just use that.
RexGig0 Posted December 19, 2019 Share #29 Posted December 19, 2019 I went on a road trip from SE Texas to NJ and upstate NY, earlier this year, and I believe that my Zeiss 1,4/35 Distagon ZM remained on my M10 the entire time. I brought a 50mm lens, probably a collapsible Elmar, but do not remember using it. I had used Zeiss ZF.2 and ZE lenses on Nikon and Canon SLRs before I added the Leica M system, so I was already familiar with the Zeiss “look,” and while the Distagon 1,4.35mm ZM may be larger than many Leica-M lenses, it is smaller than most SLR lenses, and it feels no heavier than the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, which was my first Leica M lens. I shoot in low light, often enough, that I like to have at least one f/1.4 lens available.

If you search the Zeiss site they have a list of the best settings. For the 35 C, either one of the pre-ASPH 28 Elmarit is recommended. TangoCharlie27 Posted December 24, 2019 Share #37 Posted December 24, 2019 Anyone tried the ZEISS 35mm f2.8? It's light and produces some nice results.

The C Biogon 35/2.8 ZM is just as good in its own way as the Distagon 35/1.4 ZM. My solution to the “Which 35mm?” question was to buy both and use one or the other as the situation demands.
Ertos Posted January 5, 2020 Share #40 Posted January 5, 2020 I have recently bought this lens and used it on my trip to Norway on my SL where the size is less of an issue. I must say I am very impressed by it. Welcome, dear visitor!
