I've been eyeing this bag myself, but worry it's design prioritizes camera gear over business essentials and there doesn't seem to be a top handle. As a oft long distance road-warrior, I've found a top handle plus strap is very important for quick mobility on and off train, metro, plane, taxi etc. I need one bag that can manage both business and camera, not one or the other. Any chance you can PM me a casual snap with your buiness gear + laptop and one camera + lens in this bag. Thanks in advance.

Oberworth have examples of packing on their site..

Everyone's amenity and utility function is different - which is why the quest for the 'perfect' camera bag for all situations is like the quest for the Holy Grail...

the idea of an insert carrying ones photographic requirements protected from other material in a bag suitable for the situation at hand is a really good one.

I'll often use an overnight bag carry on size for a short 2-3 day trip and include a body and couple of lenses amongst all the paraphernalia of clothing requirements and computer requirements ( which these days are pretty small really ) ..gear wraps can often be better than inserts - as they allow for more flexibility in packing...or one could use a small camera bag in the actual overnight bag ...

this one is made by an Australian company called Oroton - same quality as the

Oberworth in terms of material - but in overnight bag shape...

I can't believe that I'm joining in on a "which bag" topic, but here goes..........Looking through this thread at the really absurd amounts of money some will pay for a camera bag one thing stands out and that's this: Most of the ones mentioned and offered as suggestions are really beautiful bags , but if I was in the game of "grab it and run like hell" these are the kinds of bags that say "snatch me, there's something even more expensive and fence-able inside". There's two recent posts on the M10 forum that confirm that risk.

Ok, I'm not immune to the everlasting quest for the perfect bag, which doesn't exist of course. Just the last week having bought a Peak Design 5lt Sling that I talked myself into thinking would be the perfect M10/M10-D day-bag, I found out very quickly that it's just not. At least not for me anyway despite being made extremely well made. As always the battered and stained Domke's seem to sigh and say " I told you so" when I pick one up, throw a camera in and leave the new ones behind as I wonder how to put them into the "Ebay, Lightly Used, For Sale" pile.

A beautifully crafted, designer fine leather bag to hold your lovely Leica stuff could well lead to the swift loss of both. Go shabby, go Domke preferably well used or second hand, it works.

The PeakDesign Sling 5L is exactly what I carry my M system when out for most local events or family gathering. Mysteriously small, compact and light weight, intelligent design and fits M10 + 35/lux or 50 Lux attached + another M lens + small flash and accessories like spare AA, iPhone, keys, small Giottos blower, SD cards, M10 battery, lens pen/brush, business cards, the M essential micro fiber cloth or two and even my plastic thin rain poncho!

The whole PeakDesign line IMO, has a very pedestrian look to it so nothing I would take on a business trip or worry about as a thief magnet. But functionally I can pretty much get down to business with this product. The design allows for easy front messenger style carry while strolling and fling it around to the back when you are in the zone. Adjusting the strap as needed is a cinch ( pun intended). I shoot sports and events and I often need to move through, above, below the crowds quickly or sometimes out of the way of the oncoming "whatever" to get the shot. This small bag hangs very close to my body so I can move through the crowds with confidence. The PeakDesign material takes muddy splashes and water spray with ease. Dirt, sand, mud and water seems to roll off this material. I do brush or vacuum the inside and out after a few hours on a dusty Motocross track. I also use the PeakDesign Sling 10L for all the same reasons when I need to get out there with the Sony kit with larger telephotos.

I was so happy with the PeakDesign Sling products I did try their 15" Messenger V2 for the reasons discussed in this thread, business + camera. Not sure what I was thinking. Such an ungainly design IMO. With 15" svelte MBP, felt like I was carrying a board over my shoulder with a strange triangular knapsack holding my gear. I couldn't get rid of this bag fast enough.

Same with me!

The PeakDesign 5L is a great Bag and designed by people thinking like photographers.
It has a lot of small and great solutions like the versatile seperators.

I have a nylon bag that works well when all I want to do is carry a camera and a lens or two. The thing is, some of do more than just that one thing. For instance, sometimes I need my iPad, pen, a journal, and maybe a file with me. With camera bags it seems that it is all or nothing. I’ve tried the wraps but those work as well as Oberwerth’s add-on straps.

I just checked the 2 stolen goods threads that appear just below this one.  One M10 was in a Domke bag, and the other involved a ransacked house.  :)

Simple bags aren’t usually the moral;  more often it’s having good personal insurance and/or practicing discreet and careful shooting, carry, and storage habits.

I think the DOMKE pictured below which I have used for 20 years or more...looks like a camera bag but doesn't allow for a laptop and 'stuff' nor does it satisfy the OP's requirements for a 'tidy' and (presumably) not embarrassing briefcase type affair he can use to go about his business as a Doctor - his call his choice.

I doubt the poster intends to go into places seeking that once in a lifetime shot based on one global calamity or another whilst being pursued by camera bag thieves in waiting.....

I'll have to make a separate post below to illustrate the point in context of a couple of alternatives already discussed - I know which bag(s) I use for what occasion having been at this caper for a couple of  decades now - and I know that a Domke over the shoulder in some places I go to is a bigger 'inducement' to would be thieves than an overnight bag or an over the shoulder bag which looks like a briefcase....the DOMKE 'screams' look' another happy snapper and his bag full of gear!!!! The only bag of gear I've ever had pinched was a Hadley pro with two Leica M7's and four lenses in it - that is when I stopped walking around with bags that look like they were made to carry fish.😀

Let me guess. The soft supple leather one in the back has a GFX50S with the GF32-64 F4 attached plus the GF110 F2 and the GF120 F4 Macro in it. The overnight bag made of similar soft supple leather in the front carries an M10 with the 35 Summilux attached and a 50 Noctilux. The toughest one is the cheapo looking canvas one on the left. I’d say it just has some hedge fund papers in it.

Ok, I stand corrected, thanks Jeff. I just remembered that there were two "stolen cameras" posts and should have re-read them before quoting.

As for the post in general and whether one should treat one's self to an expensive bag or not, obviously that's an individual choice and I do respect that, I just don't understand why one would spend a whole lot of money on such an accessory, but again that's a personal perspective and choice, not a criticism.

Domke's work fine for me and over the years despite trying to find other options I always come back to what's tried and true, for me......that's all.........and perversely on most occasions now when I go out with a camera it's with no bag, bare camera and spare battery and/or lens soft-wrapped in a pocket. No bag quandary.

Just in case that Pulitzer Prize winning photo is just around the next bend.  I want and need that brief case!!

If that prize winning photo presents itself it'll probably be too late by the time you've faffed about getting the camera out of your brief case and set up, the moment will be lost.

Wear your camera around your neck, ready for any opportunities. Sometimes the good old 'ever ready case' is best (if you leave the lens cap off and just need to flip the front to get the photo).

I think the secret of solving the bag problem is to get over the idea that you always have to carry around your Leica. I doubt that many truly great photos – let alone Pulitzer prize winning ones – have ever been taken by people going about their daily business. In the unlikely event of there being something incredible that has to be photographed, a modern iPhone will do the job well enough.

I got one of these used on the auction site a while ago.  Barbour Tarras, full leather, accepts a Billingham Hadley insert and shoulder pad.  Not sure if they are still available new.  I also have a very similar Billingham Hadley, in black pebble-grain all-leather, but those were limited edition and I haven't seen one come up for sale in a while.

Go for something which is easy to carry around all day. I bought the Ona Berlin - which is a beautifully made leather bag, but far too heavy to carry all day if you bring a couple of lenses and a camera. I'm currently looking for something made of waxed cotton and which doesn't make me look like I'm fly fishing for trout.

The first version wasn’t so beautifully made....

There is an entire generation of photogs that adore their Domke bags. I read about Domke recommendations many times across multiple camera brand forums. I don’t get the nap sack look or approach myself. But then again I can see where someone might think my Uber organized PeakDesign Sling might look strange too. But I did have to laugh at your fish association and maybe that’s where the affinity comes for some.

More fish analogies. 😂🤪😁 this thread is turning out to be pretty funny! I tried the laptop capable Ona Brixton yesterday. Damn heavy bag all by itself and there is IMO some oddly placed one top handle off to one side ?

In keeping with the theme of the thread: business + camera, next up for me is to see what USA brand Tumi bags might offer. I’ve carried my Tumi leather Alpha slim multiple times across four continents with multiple generations of laptop models which also seem to be getting slimmer and slimmer every couple of years and the bag still looks great.  On the other hand, a doctor’s type bag sounds interesting too.
