A partial solution?

Can I as a relative newbie here revive this topic which I hadn't noticed before? I raised just this question about the wandering focus point in the 'How do I do such and such?" thread at the end of last year and had no helpful solution. In fact I was so frustrated by the issue that I was seriously thinking of selling my newly acquired CL.

However, in digging back into this thread I see that a solution is suggested that seems to have been rather overlooked and which has to some extent solved the problem for me. If, as you pick up your CL for a shot, you quickly double-tap the centre of the screen you will find that the focus point snaps back to the centre. Hooray!

I hope this will help a few others as frustrated as I was. However, it would still be nice to be able to lock the focus point.

Just resurrecting this topic once more.  Did anyone find a solution other than Jaap's suggestion of a double tap each time you raise the camera?   I recall that a later firmware release made it possible to turn off something or other related to the problem, but cannot find what it was.

Up to now I have been okay with face-detect.  I have just starting using an APO-Summicron-SL 50 and need to get more precise focus.  The focus point just seems to disappear and the camera never focuses on anything at all.  It really is as stupid and frustrating as everyone says.  Can't believe Leica themselves use the camera with this problem.

One of the frustrations of this is that it is not dependent on the screen. I have the screen locked off for touch, yet the focus point still moves…

It turns out my problem is when I’m walking that the 4-way controller is getting nudged as the camera “bounces” off my chest. This is exacerbated by heavier/longer lenses.

If you use EVF Extended then you don’t need the controller to be active unless you press the Menu or FN buttons to light the screen up. You would think and hope that the default in this case would be for the controller and LCD to be uncoupled as the default and not on or mobile until the Menu button is pressed.

Can it really be that hard to do???

Hard to believe that something this problematic and so easy to fix in firmware hasn’t been resolved. This problem makes the CL the least pleasant Leica to use. The fact that they don’t fix something this basic makes me wonder why I continue to buy Leica products. What were they thinking?
