Leica CL CL + handgrip?

Greetings, 

 

If you'd be buying a CL over again, would you buy the "Handgrip CL" for it, or not?  

 

As well, would you chose the "EP-CL Thumbs Up Grip" for it, or the "handgrip"?  If you could only get one of those two extra items.

Matter of tastes. Some people like handgrips, others don't. I prefer the Leica Thumb Support (# 19508) to the Match Technical EP-CL Thumbs Up Grip personally as i find the latter too short but this a matter of tastes again.

I would buy it in a flash. IMO it is an essential accessory with longer and heavier lenses, especially if combined with a Thumbie.

I rather dislike the Thumbs-Up and Leica Thumbgrip for various reasons. If I had to choose just one, it would be the handgrip.

I agree that the Thumbie is the best solution as it does not block the hot-shoe. It allows easy movement of the right wheel with the index finger and the left wheel with the thumb. It is small and unobtrusive and when mounted correctly looks like part of the camera. It certainly improves the handling of the CL without the weight and bulk of the grip. Of course when using larger, longer heavier lenses a grip is very helpful.

I bought the Leica handgrip the same day I bought the CL body and apart from removing it to change the battery and card (no big deal in my opinion) it hasn't been off the body since. I think the handgrips are great and also use them on my M10 and Monochrom.

I would not use any long/heavy lens without it. Basically I only remove it to change cards or battery.  I don't use handgrips on my M cameras.

Matter of tastes. I much prefer the 135/3.4 with the Leica Thumb Support personally. It's no that i dislike handgrips per se. I like them when the shutter release is located on the handgrip itself, but not when it is on the top plate of M or CL cameras. YMMV.

I have used the handgrip with M and Q.  With thumb support you really do have a very strong grip on the camera.  But, now, with the CL...the freedom to change batteries, cards, etc...the thumb support seems enough of a "hold" on the camera for me.  The camera is smaller and I like it keep it that way.

Without able to try the Leica thumb grip or the Leica handgrip on the CL, I'd ask those who have the experience that would you think it will be too much to have the  "Leica Handgrip CL"  & the  "Leica Thumb Support CL"  together to use on the CL?

When I bought the CL (second hand) the original Leica CL handgrip was included in the package.
I added a finger loop afterwards, and now I am using it only with the finger loop, so no strap at all.

Verse satisfied with this way of carrying.

I only use long lenses on the SL (90-280), but rather than a grip I use a handstrap which gives extra support. The CL is too light to need anything for the longest lens I put on it (60mm)

However, personally, I find the thumb support just gives me extra reassurance that I have a good hold on the slippery little eye wateringly expensive thing - it's beautiful naked but if it's going to squirm out of anyone's paws they'd be mine. I have found I don't use the grip at all, it's too small to make a difference for me.

I use a wrist strap all the time on my CL and M (I don't use neck straps), so the only risk from a slip of the fingers is a lost shot!

I have the Cl and also the Q, and the Q's grip.  I tried it on the CL and it fit 99% perfectly, so that's where I keep it. Other than me wanting a half leather case, which I will eventually order, I always have grip as well.

 

I have the thumb support on my M10 and my Q, and I recommend it.  But I don't use a flash usually on my Q and M10, so the thumb support being on the flash hot shoe is fine. But I do use my Leica SF-40 flash on the CL so I can't add the thump support and lose my flash.
