Bought a Thumbie - mini-review

There are some Thumbs-up type thumb supports, but I am no fan, for several reasons.

I don't like the idea of blocking the hot shoe

They are a bit far to the middle of the camera for my taste

If sand gets between the camera and the Thumbsup, the camera may be scratched

I am not confident about the mechanical stress on the hot-shoe.

So I ordered Steve's Thumbie and for my hands it fits well.

Together with the handgrip and using long, heavy lenses, the camera feels confidently gripped.

After retraining my thumb's muscle memory, the wheels are sufficiently accessible.

There are some niggles -

it is not removable like a hot-shoe type grip

I wish that the edges were a bit more rounded, this feels a bit harsh

I lost one in the the tropical rainforest on the M9, so I hope the glue on this one is more heat-moisture resistant.

It is painted, not anodized, so the finish will show wear before tha camera does.

All in all, for me it is a keeper.

Question about "glue" :p I put a Thumbie on the M8 since several years (and on all of my Leica to date), say about 8 years ? And never had to complain on the serious attachment by the double face tape. Of course YMMV and I never myself went too near the equator.. :D

Enjoy, it is solid!

Question about "glue" :p

I had those thumbies on my M7 bodies and they moved, finally becaming so loose I had to remove them. When I went to put them away I found each had a spare glue strip in the box. Good idea! Replaced them and it's been good for a few years.

Please do not contact Steve through the forum or his forum psuedonym for sales (this is against forum rules). PM me and I will pass on his contact details to anyone wanting to buy a Thumbie. The CL Thumbie is available NOW.

Wilson

PS Steve has asked me to remind folks to say that they are forum members when they order, to get a discount on the regular eBay price.

I'll PM Steve's contact details as well.

See above.

Steve has an e-bay shop too.

You can contact him through eBay to request the specific CL model. He should really update that ad, the M240 isn't mentioned either.  ;)
