Alistairm Posted May 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just noticed that the little black Leica "button" on the back of camera. I am a bit embarrased, but I am not sure what it even does. Have I been missing some key function the whole time, is it just a cover, do I need to worry about getting it "fixed"? Mute-on Posted May 27, 2018 Share #6 Posted May 27, 2018 If you knock the cover, the Leica script may become misaligned. You may be able to avoid sending it to Wetzlar for a six month repair if you can gently rotate the cover using your opposable thumb and forefinger. If you aren’t confident enough to do this yourself (understandably) you could send it to DAG, Sherry K, Youxin Ye, or perhaps CameraWorks in the UK. Camera Works can repaint your camera at the same time, and fix any other minor issues that have emerged. If you lose the cover, Leica may still have stock and will replace it for you with a full CLA. Be prepared for big $$$$ for that. I hope you are not traumatised by this information. Good luck
MarkP Posted May 27, 2018 Share #7 Posted May 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) What will happen if the part is lost or damaged after M-A production is discontinued? How long thereafter will Leica supply this essential component, or in time will the M-A just become an 'expensive paperweight'? ;-)
250swb Posted May 27, 2018 Share #8 Posted May 27, 2018 I once made the mistake of leaving the cap at home in the draw to stop it being lost, but to my dismay all my subsequent pictures were terrible. Yes, you've guessed it, all the expensive Leica mojo had leaked out the hole. Fortunately my local dealer had some spare mojo just in case of such emergencies, but I now keep the cap firmly plugged in and bought a spare just in case. I've since heard that if you do find your cap has been lost a 'field repair' can be effected by saying "best camera in the World" just before taking a snap.
jaapv Posted May 27, 2018 Share #9 Posted May 27, 2018 Flash socket? To provide bounce flash I suppose? It looks . awfully small to carry a whole flash, and my flash has a large square connector with five pins as the bottom. How do I plug it in there? Does Leica provide an adapter? There used to be two on real Leicas.
pedaes Posted May 27, 2018 Share #11 Posted May 27, 2018 Have Leica omited describing the function of the "button" in detail in the manual? Is this another example of deteriorating QA?

UliWer Posted May 27, 2018 Share #13 Posted May 27, 2018 I don‘t think it‘s the EV3. It‘s the connection for the next generation of Apple USB-Standard „LeicWire“.

a.noctilux Posted May 27, 2018 Share #15 Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) Thanks guys, It's clear now . I asked myself same question as the OP since 2014 . To figure it out, searching in M-A paper instructions manual, not one word or description of this obscur device. No mention on the first folded page , neither on the last folded page . On mine, it's tilted about 10° that let supposing the IQ inspection was not up-to-date. Edited May 27, 2018 by a.noctilux

semi-ambivalent Posted May 28, 2018 Share #18 Posted May 28, 2018 I'm experiencing déjà-vu ... https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/236926-i-love-my-m-a/?p=3461754 Ha! Not déjà-vu but an entirely new experience! Relish it! I ask almost out of habit, waiting for those serial numbers to tick over to, what? 15? 16? To divine the market success of the M-A and the odds of its being around long enough for me to decide to buy one. The demise of the M7 has upped the ante. Don't you think? All of Leica's film camera production perhaps dwarfed by K1000s alone.
