It is a wide angle lens, depth of field will be more depth than higher focal length lenses. Unless intended to use the lens for action / movement shots, stabalization will not contribute much effect. Rather user must remember to turn off whenever a tripod is employed for landscape shots and a fast lens would not be much use except increasing the weight, size and price of lens.

Turning off OIS really is an issue?! Not at all - at least for me...

My AF-S Nikkor 16-35 f/4 is my most used lens on my Nikon bodies, whereas I never use the Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 which is much bigger and heavier. So while I can understand some of the other users' views about overlap, if the size is right, I would certainly be tempted to buy the SL 16-35mm.

No surprise here - the upcoming Vario 16-35 will be very comparable to the 24-90 in terms of weight and size...

I am buying for sure, can't wait, would be my lens most on the SL for sure. Most likely trade in the 24-90 or WATE for it, will give 2 stops extra over WATE (due to M adaptor on SL loosing more light), great to be able to go to 35mm and also be able to use on the CL. I just really hope it is a little lighter than the 24-90... I do a lot of landscape work and now always leave the house with 24-90 and WATE. Most likely I can now go out with just the 16-35 en maybe the CL and the 60mm lens. Is it April yet?  :)

I have been asking for price list from Leica store but not available till date. Any of you know the price yet? The SL75 & 90 price list was out 1 mth before the 1st batch of lenses arrived in Leica stores for trial. I hope the same trend continues on having 16-35mm arriving on Singapore shore early as first batch of lenses get shipped from Leica Germany.

Carry a 12mm Hellar, SL16-35mm, SL75mm, 90-280mm would be a good kit for me.

Called a dealer yesterday morning and word is this lens won't be shipping in April.....big surprise !!!!

It is either an overall delay from Germany or your location that is the reason. I’ve not heard anything about delay yet.

Canada

From past few product launches, North America seems to be slower in receiving new releases. In Asia, it seems pretty quick. I was surprised how fast I gotten my SL75 after product launchmore than a month ago.

1.6KG... that is on the heavy side..:

On a positive note, good that it is finally to be announced shortly. I expected it to get delayed further.

Obs, that's in the territory of the 90-280 lens, weight-wise (ok, it's April 1st, but still...).
