There is a very short blackout followed by a freeze of the view. My subjective assessment is that it lasts just under 2 secs from pressing the shutter to seeing the live view. I would like it shorter (the SL freeze is not noticeable), but I can live with it.

There is a very short, unobtrusive blackout. There is no freeze of the view neither. If you are seeing a freeze, it is because you turned on auto-review.

Correct. And a quick half-press on the shutter immediately ends the auto-review, in case this is turned on.

I leave auto-review off.  In that case the image I just shot is held ("frozen") until I lift my finger from the shutter button.  I'm seeing this with an L mount lens.

You live and learn. I haven't noticed this effect until you mentioned it. So this is a kind of 'exceptional' auto-review. Thanks for the hint.

Ouch quite a deal breaker for me as i often stay half pressed to keep the same AE settings for two or more photos. Is it possible to disable this "frozen" effect with L lenses? Just curious.

Half-press counts as lifting :-). Only if you keep the shutter pressed completely is the image frozen.

That is correct, not only that, but the halfpress has a very clear tactile click both coming and going.

With 1.7 firmware on my T the freeze is about 0.5 second.

You can make the freeze shorter by lowering the JPEG megapixels and or Jpeg quality.

My T was very slow before this update. I then decided to put back auto-review to one second because I felt the freeze was too short and not leting me the time to review the image.

The T and CL/TL2 are very different beasts when it comes to the "freeze" longish on the T. Barely noticeable on the CL and TL2.
