dancook Posted December 28, 2017 Share #1  Posted December 28, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sometimes I consider a possibility of changing gear around and before I know it - the deal is done - I can be impulsive and impatient..  So I'm just going to slow down and put my thinking down...  I have  Leica Q  - 28mm 1.7 Leica M10  - 24mm 1.4 ASPH  - 35mm 1.4 ASPH  - 50mm 1.4 ASPH  - 90mm 2.0 ASPH Leica SL  - 90-280mm 2.8-4.0 SL  I bought the M lenses when I decided to buy the M10, and used them on my SL in the interim.   I've shot a few weddings since getting the M10, I stick to the 28mm 1.7 on the Q and the 50mm 1.4 on the M10.  I've only used the 24mm 1.4 really for indoor shots of my house extension project, a bit of a waste.  90mm 2.0 ASPH on the M10, is slow to focus for weddings and gets more difficult for use with rangefinder. Though I might like to use it for portraits outside of wedding usage, I do quite like the 50mm and it's versatility.  Then I have the SL with the big lense, the SL is a nice backup to the M10 if anything should fail. The lens covers a good range and has excellent optical quality, even though i'll be using it on rare occasions it seems like it could be more useful than the 90mm 2.0 leica-m.  35mm 1.4 ASPH I bought for when I want to just carry the M10, as a general purpose lens - time will tell on that idea.   So sell the 24mm 1.4 and 90mm 2.0 ?

Luke_Miller Posted December 28, 2017 Share #2  Posted December 28, 2017 (edited) I will always find a need for a lens after I sell it.  My most used lenses changes over time and I will eventually find a use for all of them.  Edited December 28, 2017 by Luke_Miller

spydrxx Posted December 28, 2017 Share #8 Â Posted December 28, 2017 Having bought & sold numerous Leica lenses since 1968, my advice is to keep a lens for 4-5 years If you didn't use it or very little, and don't anticipate an increase in usage in the future, then sell it. Most people I know usually regret their sales 2-4 years afterwards, for a variety of reasons.

Photon42 Posted December 28, 2017 Share #10  Posted December 28, 2017 It looks like a quality setup. If you don’t need the money, don’t sell. Q/M/SL are good for different applications and can compliment each other. Ignore the sports car temptations ...
earleygallery Posted December 28, 2017 Share #11 Â Posted December 28, 2017 Sell the Q and the 90M
Belle123 Posted December 28, 2017 Share #12 Â Posted December 28, 2017 If you sell the 24 and the 90, you will have just two lenses for your M. I finally honed my collection down to three, Noctilux 1.0, Summicron 35 and 50, and never buying another. Three is a good number. I would replace the 24 and 90 with an older Summicron 50 for variation in look, plus is a very light lens. But that is just my own taste.
dancook Posted December 28, 2017 Author Share #13 Â Posted December 28, 2017 Sell the Q and the 90M Â The Q is really good for grab shots during a wedding, when you're close up or need to get an angle on it. It also has a macro mode for close up. Â Also Q is my ultimate street camera.
albertknappmd Posted December 28, 2017 Share #14  Posted December 28, 2017 You have a nice series of interchangeable lenses. If you want to sell the Q, so be it but keep you r M and SL lenses. They are all boast excellent optics and will always be useful....  I made the mistake of selling my R lenses in 2010... I still regret it now that the SL is around... BTW, some of those R lenses are now going for astronomical prices to boot....  Albert
dancook Posted December 28, 2017 Author Share #15  Posted December 28, 2017 It must be economy sedan, then.  nothing too impractical for motorways and daily life, an Audi TT would be my 'sports car' - but I'd quite like an A5 otherwise. Like the Noctilux, the 75 gives two lenses in one, wide open vs stopped down. I don't own either, but might suit your wedding shoots. Â Jeff
Go Figure Posted December 28, 2017 Share #18  Posted December 28, 2017 Daily shooter = Q: 28 morphs into a 35 into a 50  M10 with 35 or 50  All the rest you can use on the SL or put in the safe or sell  P.S. the 24/1.4 was built for the M8 > will obstruct most of your viewfinder > focusing is awkward ... it will never make you happy
Abram Posted December 29, 2017 Share #19  Posted December 29, 2017 Honestly I have had more than a few lenses I wish I kept, but buying / selling / trading has allowed me to try quite a few over the years. Right now I’m keeping things very minimal but there’s a few lenses in particular that I would absolutely rebuy given the chance.  Ps, M10 & 35 FLE is a great combo! (That’s what I use)
Mute-on Posted December 29, 2017 Share #20  Posted December 29, 2017 You have very sensibly identified the most reasonable course of action IMO.  Yes, sell the 90 Summicron and 24 Summilux. You have the 90 covered in the SL zoom, and you have the Q for moderate wide angle.  I’m not surprised you like the Q with M10 and 50 combination. It is extremely versatile, lightweight, and will realistically cover 95% of your photographic needs.  If you aren’t using the SL and long zoom, sell that too. You will survive! Go buy a nice sporty car and do a few track days. That will really blow your mind
